Any one else still not get the Takata airbag recall done?

Both the I35 and Accord in my sig are a part of the campaign. I'm worried the dealer will do the recall and mess up something else in the process. This happened with my Accord with an ignition interlock recall. They did the repair and afterwards my key kept getting stuck in the ignition and not come out. After fighting tooth-and-nail, they finally agreed to fix it. I just don't want to have to go through a similar process again. I try to stay away from dealerships as much as possible.

It's funny it took them 13 yrs to realize the airbags were faulty. Most eligible cars are probably in the junkyard by now. What do you guys think? I get this is a safety issue and all.

Im sure there are plenty of us that have not gone to the dealership yet over this...
should we? Id imagine so. I need to when time permits.

i just entered my vin at safecar.gov; the official site to check status and it reports the nissan defect is for the passenger side airbag. hmm, i thought everything i had till now involved the drivers airbag; not passenger.

I still need to get mine done. It requires more time and effort than i'm willing to part with right now lol. My car is 12 years old and as crazy as it sounds, i dont' trust the dealer on my older car. I'm pretty sure the dealership is going to screw something up or come back with bad news i don't want to hear. In all seriousness though, i need to get it fixed for safety reasons.

I haven't done it, maybe never will. My car has been fine for 14 years now or so, I think it'll be fine.

Besides that, this recall was added to Carfax reports. I looked at mine and the recall is on there at the bottom, and they are all definitely for the passenger (NOT driver) side airbag.

Part of the reason I never cared, the driver side is just fine

My logic:
If my passengers are really that worried about it.. they can take the car in and deal with any repercussions.

Otherwise if the airbag kills them, they wont be around to complain about it

It's not my fault, Takada and Nissan's fault. So shame on them.

Thats what I said too. It's their fault, they really should come to my house and fix THEIR problem, not mine.

I did it right when I got notified that there was a recall on it. I just figured if they're going to fix something for free, why not. I haven't had any problems ever since.

I got it done when I went for an oil change, in total the whole process took a little over an hour with the oil change, the claimed 2 hours time for the airbag alone is BS. Don't want anything to happen to my passengers plus I guess it'll give reassurance to the buyer when I sell my car

Are all the I35's being recalled now for the Takata air bag or is it still just the I35's in southern humid climates? I have a 2004 I35 but I'm in the Northeast.

^^Not sure but you can check if your car's included by entering your VIN into safecar.gov or Infiniti's website.

Mine's a 2002 I35 and I live in the northwest and it was recalled. You should get a letter in the mail from Infiniti if your I35 is a part of the recall. I got my letter in the summer of last year. So, if you haven't gotten a letter by now, it's probably not a part of the recall. Unless, however, the letter got lost in the mail.

To find out, keep checking this link:

It seems that even Nissan doesn't know - at least not yet - which cars are (are not) affected.

I got mine done without error. They said they would look over the car and give it a general inspection too. Love it when they can't find anything on a car with nearly 240k

I tried to get it done at the Dealer in Kaiserslautern, Germany a few months ago. THey took the car in and gave it back to me 2 days later stating the part never arrived, even though I scheduled the appointment 2 weeks prior!
haven't been back since -but intend to sometime. The language barrier can make it tough sometimes too.

Looks like those of us who's cars haven't been issued a recall yet for the Takata airbags may be getting a notice soon...

Takata is nearly doubling the size of its already massive recall for faulty airbags, making it the largest auto recall in history.

Victims appeared to have been shot or stabbed, according to police who responded to the accidents. Many others had serious injuries including vision damage from shrapnel hitting them in the eye.
yeaaaaaahhhhhh, I'm going to call and get this done.

I have not been notified, haven't had it done, and I am not sure I have a problem. (The Nissan site tells me something stupid, like "please wait few more days"). What should I do?

Finally had the recall done today. Dealer had the part in stock and it took a little over an hour without any issues.

Called the Honda dealer to schedule an appt for my Accord and was told the part's backordered for weeks.

Interesting. I wonder if they even bothered to look up anything for you. My 2000 is not part of the recall. I think the 2002 is the first year.

Enter you VIN here to see if there are ANY recalls on your car that have not been done.

Thanks, I checked again and the Nissan site tells me there are no recalls against my VIN.

One of the articles I read yesterday said it could take the car manufacturers some time to compile all the VIN's affected and for the recalled vehicles show up in the database, so car owners should check back in a few weeks.

Also the NHTSA has this message on their website:
Please Note: If you are checking to see if your vehicle is affected by the Takata air bag recalls, it generally takes anywhere from a few days to several weeks for automakers to gather individual VINs associated with a recall. It is important that you check back periodically as a recall on your vehicle may not show up immediately.
So I would say keep checking maybe once a week.

Any one else still not get the Takata airbag recall done?

Just took mine in to have the ABS codes pulled. They changed the airbag while I was in there. I know I put it off far too long. But think about it, now that they've announced over 34 million recalls, how long before Takata goes bankrupt and you can't get it done? Probably shouldn't wait...

Will the rest of our 5th/5.5 Gen Maxima's I30/I35's finally be recalled for the defective Takata airbags?

U.S. orders massive expansion of Takata recalls
Phased action will add up to 40 million inflators

I was surprised when Nissan announced last summer that they weren't recalling any more cars for the Takata airbag issue. I made a complaint to the NHTSA but it went nowhere. I cannot understand how Nissan determined only cars in southern high humidity states should be recalled when other manufacturers such as Honda recalled millions of affected cars. People are being killed by these faulty airbags.

Had both my 2002 Maxima and 2002 I35 done recently. No issues, took them a couple hours. I am selling both cars soon and figured I don't want a lawsuit coming my way from the prospective new owners.

Oddly enough, the Nissan dealership wanted nothing to do with the repair on the I35. Had to take the car to the nearest Infiniti dealer which is over an hour away.

IIRC, there is no law in the US about this. You cannot be held liable for damages due to selling an unsafe vehicle to someone.
