Just got my Courtesy Strut Bar

Hey all.. I just recieved my Nissan Courtesy Strut bar..

It Says it fits a 1999-2002.. anyways mY car is the 2002 ...

and it seems as if when i put it on.. not installing it though.. I was just laying the brackets over the bolts and when i place them there.. one side seems to stick up.. or when i push the other side down the other side goes up.. does this mean this strut bar is too small? or what please help....

Re: Just got my Courtesy Strut Bar

You can adjust the bar by unscrewing it before you put it on. If you go to courtesyparts.com and find the 2k2 FSTB, there is a link for the instructions for mounting it. Good Luck. Oh yeah, make sure to torque it down to 35lbs.

It's a 15 minute job tops. Since you're in PHX, I'd be willing to help you with the install.

The ends on the FSTB should be adjustable (screw in/out to adjust).

isn't 35lb ft a little too light for bolts that big?

Actually that's what the Courtesy site advises in the instal instructions. I also have seen a bunch of folks on the Org suggest the same thing. So far it works on my VE and I've been pushing her into high speed turns.

No, that's right. There's actually a range of torque settings for those bolts, which is 30-40 ft-lbs, so everyone just recommends 35 as a nice median.

As stated in my Nissan ECM : 43-51 lb's. Courtesy just say's 35 lb's becuase they don't want someone to take a risk.

Uh oh! Because we have different generations, the numbers are a bit different, but they should be similar - BUT, the first set of numbers is in Newtons/Meter(N.m), and in brackets goes kg-m, and THEN LAST ft-lbs! I hope you haven't been tightening everything in N.m's... I almost did that myself!

My FSM reads: 39-54 (4.0-5.5, 29-40) <---last numbers are ft-lbs range for me, hence the 35ft-lbs average

young and ingnorant 17 y/o here.. lol.. what exactly is ft/lb on a strut bar.. cuz i kno torque is measured in ft/lb but is ft/lb a measurement of tightness? if so, what measures it? and how does it work?

Three bolts that hold the strut to the body (and strut bar) should be tightened to above mentioned spec. If you overtighten it you risk stripping bolts, undertighten it and your front weels will fall off

It basically measures how much force you should use on the bolt when tightening it. Special(well not that special) tool called torque wrench is used. It can be had any place that sells tools starting at about $15. Or maybe folks at autozone will let you borrow it.

Very basically, torque is "twisting force". So when you're done tightening the nuts there's no longer any torque acting on them, but it's just a way to judge how much to tighten them.

OH OH I know this one.

The very same FSTB that fits on your beautiful 2-2k Max also happens to be the only bar that fits on a 92-94 VE Max. Bman through trial and error figured this out and became a folk legend for VE owners everywhere. And they lived happily ever after. The end.
