2000 Nissan Maxima 3.0l Car Cranks but Doesnt Turn Over. Please Read

I Bought a 2000 nissan maxima gle 3.0l Automatic. for $1,400 at a dealer ship a few months ago and has been a nightmare. After Putting it on the road, doing regular maint. like tie rods, control arm, alignment etc etc. i fell into an issue with the car cranking but not starting. i Changed Crankshaft sensor, camshaft thinking and reading online about the issue prior to shipping it to a nissan dealer. They said it had 2 nat codes therefore had to change the immbolizer and reprogram the key. After this the car was Fine for a month until one day at a gas station started doing the same thing again. living 40 miles away from this nissan dealership i paid an additional $100 for a tow truck. So while at the dealer ship was told the vehicle was in "Lock Mode" but this time wasnt showing the same nat code but just a lock mode code. i was told to buy an ecm and was given the part number off of the old ecm. using this part number i found a rebuilt ecm with the same part number for $80. Reading online relatable issues someone said to change the idle air control valve before reprograming. so i bought one for $45 on ebay. brought these parts to nissan n after a couple days got a phone call saying the computer isnt in lock mode after the installation but now they are having an issue reprogramming the key using the original and a new one(that i paid $40 extra For). my car has been in this dealer ship almost 2 weeks now. and im dumfounded that a nissan dealer cant figure this out. or it can be simply that they dont know what wrong with it? or mayb havnt even started working on the car? has anyone gone through this or have reasonable advice on what they think can be causing this if its even legitimate info they are giving me?? please any thing Contact me on this thread or even at my personal email edub378@yahoo.com thank u for ur time

There are so many things that could be the problem. We need to know what the check engine light codes are. For example, you say that there were NATS codes. These are P16xx codes. They will all immobilize the car. The crankshaft sensors give codes P0335 and P1335.

I'm also surprised the dealer is a bozo. There is a diagnostic computer they have called CONSULT that would tell them exactly what was wrong. I would call Nissan corporate in California and complain.

Well the last time i checked the obd which i have a matco obd scanner it poped up bank 2 sensors and catalyst effeciancy but those were the only dtc codes then when i brought it to the dealer they said it was a P1610 Code. but since this is the second time so they told me to start with an ecm because something was throwing the programmed key off. so i did what i was told.... if it was an immobilizer then thats under warrenty still. so mayb they dont wanna pay to place another one in? or mayb they are bsing me as of right now.. i live in mass and this place is called jerry rome nissan would that still be a person to call about this issue in california i mean?????

well i already bought and recieved the iacv and supposedly its already in and working fine. but yet they cant program the keys to turn the car on to see if the iacv is fine. i figured id give the ebay one a try figuring my luck with ebay things isnt too bad. i wasnt having problems with my idle prior i just figured id change it ne way before they start reprograming things figured do i all at once ... but ne ways my issue is that i brought the new ecm and iacv in this past monday and they still have my car and every day that i call its like they have no answers for me....?????/ no im the one with questions and im seriously considering calling someone higher in rank now because although im an employee(at a different dealership withing the same company) and i get my discount on labor and things im still a paying customer... no matter what....

feedback on non-oem iacvs is that they are problematic. who knows yours might be fine. do you know if they opened the old ecu to verify for damage typical to the iacv issue? seems bs for them to suggest you replace it without really identifying it as a problem

sorry i don't really have any ideas on the rest of the issues

That number is Nissan Corporation. Nissan Corporation sells franchises to who ever wants to be a Nissan dealer and oversees all the dealers nationwide.

Considering that you work for a dealer, I'm surprised you don't know this.

i asked them if the ecu was actually defective and was told there was no way of checking the ecu besides smelling and odor etc etc. this is what im getting from all this becuz i am car savy aswell and its not making any sense to me that they are telling me to replace the ecu without really checking into it to make sure that it is in fact the problem..

as far as checking for the iacv damage to ecu yeah smell is the quick easy way, the hard way is to visually inspect- which is like 8 screws and that only takes maybe 10 minutes. damage should be pretty obvious if it fried the usual chip. if they suspected the iacv as the culprit that should have been an easy check

i guess a possibility is that they are trying to save a headache further down the road and protect the new ecu. replacing a worn part that is know to fail and take out the ecu wouldn't be totally unreasonable

well me personally i would open it and see if there was damage but they have the ecm although i should have asked them to let me see it to visually inspect it myself. now i was told as well that it can be a few things.. i bought the ecm on eBay which might have been a bit risky of course but i took the chance at a rebuilt one. rather then one from the junk yard that might be in the rain and under the weather. when i got the eBay ecm i checked inside and it looked brand new. i mean brand new. but im sure that doesnt mean that it is good or not faulty. long story short i guess im going to call nissan corp and get down to the bottom of this if i cant get answers. iv spoken to 4 service advisors tried speaking to the shop foreman and it still seems as if they push me aside. simply just want my car back becuz paying $35 a day for 14 days u guys do the math. plus the tow charges rebuilt ecm iacv iv dipped into this already almost $2000 crazy i say

i suspect you still have the issue with NATS. I had a 2000 max with the same problem. Programmed a new key, car drove fine for a little while then all of a sudden would not start, at a gas station of all places too. All I did was turn the ignition to "ON" but did not crank the engine. Left the key in ON position for about 40 minutes until the security light went away. Then started the car and drove away. Interestingly did not have the same issue again with that car.

I have dealt with jerry rome nissan, usually they are pretty good. All depends with the tech who ends up working on it. I did not know they would install used parts though, I figured that was against their policy.

keep us posted.

can you get the scanner to hook up to the computer?
