Ever flush your power steering?
Ever flush your power steering?
Just wanted to share.
Pumping in action.

Plastic flakes.
In my opinion they are from the black plastic splash guard in the tank that
is breaking down slowly.

New stuff coming out. Looks good enough to eat.

Put a filter magnafine on it to catch those plastic pieces.
Takes about 1.5 qts of amsoil. Lovely lovely amsoil.

This was on my mind, because ..... A while back, I dropped my AT pan, cleaned it, then did three consecutive drain&fills. Even though my pan was very clean, the results surprised me; huge improvement - my tranny now shifts like new, not even touch of roughness or jerkiness.
I feel should do the same for my PS. Could you describe what/how you did it?

Have the front up on jacks.
With the engine off just turn the wheel lock 2 lock really fast
All the fluid will pump out just like that real quick.
Hook it back up, put in like 1qt, and turn the wheel to suck it all down.
then you push it out again and should be flushed with new stuff.
Do it!
Let me know if you have black floaty things in it too.

I assume the fluid will "pump out" through the disconnected hose - you did not use a turkey baster, right?
I never had any issues with my Power steering fluid, never seen black particles in them, I think it's from some crud in your pump or the rack, but I never seen the tank ever break down with plastic debris. but putting on a P/S filter is a great idea, to prolong the life and protect the component of the P/S system.
I used the turkey baster method over the course of a week when I first got my I35. Used about 2 qts of regular Dexron III I had lying around. PS pump is nice and quiet, even on cold winter mornings.
Your coolant looks low there.

Smallest line going to the tank. Just disconnect the hose from the hardline and use a 3/8th hose on that. Look at the pic.
Turkey baster is not a good tool to use.
It'll take a long time and make a mess.

Cheap, sucked it out in acouple of pumps.

One more question: Do I have worry about draining all the PS fluid before pouring in Amsoil, or is a bit of mixing acceptable?
