How do you replace wheel bearing?
How do you replace wheel bearing?
I have 2001 Maxima and over the weekend I replaced front wheel bearings using a press tool from Harbor Freight. I pressed the bearing and it went in properly but after I pressed the hub to the bearing, the hub is still wobbly. The hub is spinning freely and without any grinding noise (since this was the reason I changed the bearings) but it has 'a lot of' play when I jiggle the tire at 12 & 6 o'clock position and 9&3 o'clock position.
I changed both sides and I got the same result - wobbly hub/tires.
Does anyone know if there is a proper method to press the hub into a bearing? I used Timken brand bearings, if that makes any difference.
Thanks for your input in advance.

I only bought Timken bearings only, not whole assembly. So, I used the original hub and the spindle (I am not sure if this right term but the piece where I press in the bearing)
I watched that Youtube video along others before and after more than several times to make sure I do the job right. I also have 2001 Inifniti I-30 and I changed bearings on that vehicle to see if I did something wrong on my Maxima. I got the same results on I-30 and now I have all 4 tires/hubs that are wobbly.

I think your issue may be that you only changed the bearing. Putting new bearings into an old, worn out assembly may be the cause. I suggest you get the new hub as well, change it out, and see if that fixes it. I've always been told that it is best to change the hub AND bearing. I had the wobbly wheel as well and changed out the entire assembly and didn't have that problem after. Hopefully this works for you.
