Killed a Passat...
Hey guys, yesterday I was coming back from the office around 6:00pm, I was driving normally not speeding, anyway I was waiting at the red light and sudently I see 2 cars coming fast, a Passat and and Intrepid, so I am on the left lane the Intrepid is on the middle lane and the Passat on the right lane, I clearly see that those 2 guys look like nervous and anticipating the green light, revving their engine and started a fraction of a second before it turn green, so I decided to let them take a bit of advance on me like 1/2 car length, but few second after, I decided to punch it, manually shifting my auto, as soon as I hitted the 2 nd I took like a car on the Passat, the Intrepid was already few cars back, the Passat guy really wanted to take me, but then I shifted to 3rd and took another 1 or 2 cars over but he was really pushing hard, so after passing an overpass I had to merge in the right lane to take the acces road of a boulevard, and the Passat sticking in my Bu** cuz I slowed down so in the curvy access road I punch it again and this time it was bye bye sweety pie.
P.S: One thing I founded interesting on my Max when I manually shifted at WOT, the rpm went to 6500rpm without any signal from the rev limiter, I though that most max would hit the rev limiter at around 5900 - 6000rpm. Is it a commun situation, feed back would be appreciate.
Cheers

In my 2k2 automatic, I manually shifted while racing my friend, i put it all the way to 6600, and bumped into 2nd, I glanced back to look at my friend, and he was like 5 cars back , so I didnt realize while looking back that my 2nd would climb so fast, so i feel a pulse from the car, and look at the dash in horror, and see my rev's bouncing! at 7000 rpm!, the car shut down shortly afterwards and went into Limp mode ( no WOT, no 2300+ rpm revs, no over 35mph, NO 1ST GEAR!) I let it sit for 1 hr and it returned to normal, drove it now for 5000 miles since that happened and the car is running fine, actually got a better 1/4 mile time.. 14.7 - 14.6 now still stock

Re: Re: Killed a Passat...
Here's a tip when manually shifting, since there's usually a 3-500 rpm delay before the auto follows your command try shifting not at or close to redline but somewhere closer to 5000 rpm.
Why? Add in the delay and it'll shift right when the HP/Torque starts going down (Around 5.5k)
That way when you hit 2nd or 3rd you're right in the middle of the powerband where both Torque and HP is highest.
Since our engines seem to make most of it's power before hitting the highest rpm range (right before redline) it doesn't make sense to wait that long.

Now I prefer to shift at that point and save the engine and tranny. Sometimes after warranty is over on my max, I'm going to have it rebuilt by Level 10 or someone here on the org that can take care of it.
Cheers.
