steering wheel jerk

My 2002 Maxima jerks the steering every time the accelerator goes from accel to coast it pulls left during acceleration and back right when you let off the accelerator. I recently had to add power steering fluid due to whining and I notice while changing the alternator that the pump is leaking. Is the pump causing this or is there something else.
Thanks
John

You have a bad bushing on the LCA (Lower Control Arm) on the right side of the car. Power steering fluid leaks cause the bushings to rot and deteriorate.

Carefully check for where the oil leak is. 99 times out of a hundred the leak is the high pressure power steering hose. They leak at the crimp where the metal pipe goes into the rubber hose. The wind blowing under the hood then gets the oil all over the place and it is easy to make a mistake.

Yup. Had that issue with my 2000. It was the power steering leak that caused the control arm bushings to die. My fill line and high pressure hose were leaking.
Replaced both hoses on both my 2003s. One 03 was leaking and the other I didn't want to take the chance so I went ahead and replaced it

Where exactly does your line leak at?

My pump area is wet, but from what I read it's at the crimp on the top of the hose.
Mine is dry in that area though. Don't know if it's the hose itself or the pump is what I'm wondering.

I'm in a similar spot as Donkeypunch as well...people often mention the high pressure hose and where it crimps higher up on the hose, but I'm dry there. However the pump is wet with fluid on the back of it near where the lines connect to the pump. More likely the high pressure line connection or low pressure return line connection, or the pump itself? Does the pump have to be removed to attach new connections/lines? Looks very tight in there and tough to get to. No real steering issues or noises on my end here despite the leaking.

High pressure line is done without removing the pump, take off passenger tire and splash shield to reach the banjo bolt.

I dont remember exactly where my leak was but i didnt have to do a lot more than push onthe insulation to see fluid leak out
