I finally got the water pump ready to remove, but the timing chain was still a bit to tight around it so I could not pull it out. I turned the crank pulley a bit more, and when I returned to the top of the car all the looseness of the chain on the water pump was gone. What could have caused this to happen?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
