2000 wont stay on. new alternator

So a few days ago, I an had an electrical problem diagnosed with the proper equipment to determine that I needed to swap out the alternator, and did just that. After getting my hands dirty, I managed to get the old alternator out through the bottom, and put a new one in that I picked up at autozone. Then, I hooked it up to another car, jumped up the battery, and it started right up. then, I disconnected the jumpers and let the car run. A few seconds later, the car gets quieter and quieter, then just dies out. strange thing is, the car starts right back up without a jump(So the battery isnt dying), but then just dies again. At first I thought it was the fuel(because the guage was sitting around E), but I put a couple gallons in it and the same thing happened. Another thing I noticed is that the car would die sooner if I pressed on the gas.
is there any chance that I installed the alternator incorrectly? Its on the belt, and the wire on top is connected/screwed on. Could the tensioner on the belt being too tight or loose cause this?
any feedback would be greatly appreciated
Thanks!

With the car running, measure the voltage on the battery. It should be ~ 14.5V (14V Min) if the alternator is working and connected correctly, and charging properly.

Can you keep the car running with your foot on the gas?
If so, maybe ecu needs to be relearned, especially if the battery was dead.

I cant keep it running with my foot on the gas. Putting my foot on the gas kills it faster than if I just let it idle.

Your battery probably needs a charge. I just went thru the same thing...the car died while driving...jump started fine...stalled every gave it gas. Tested battery and it was completely dead. New battery and alternator and car is great.

I often use e-coupons at Advance Auto Parts from RetailMeNot.com. Save big bucks!

I just replaced the alternator on my maxima. So far it's been running fine for a few weeks now. I did have to get a new battery as well since my old one got completely discharged due to the cold.

Here is my experience replacing the alternator you can double check your work with mine to see if you missed anything.

^You're only 3.5 months too late posting...

$5 says it was his MAF since it died quicker upon giving it gas.
