The wife had been complaining about water leaking onto the passenger floor of her 00 GLE.
I finally got around to looking at it and found two clips under the wiper cowling that were letting water come by and drip behind the housing for the interior fan.
I pulled the fan and was able to look up through the housing and see drops of water hanging off the two clips.
First I removed the cowling and popped the clips out. Then I cleaned the area and dried it with a blow drier. Using some RTV, I sealed around the clips and reinstalled everything. Problem solved.
The pics are after I removed the clips but it's pretty self explanatory. The rest of the clips under the windshield are positioned over the channel that carries water away but these two dump inside the car. The square clip on the left was a pain to remove without breaking. I had to reach through the fan housing and pinch the tabs while someone pried it from above.
This is good info. We had some heavy rain a week or so ago and the carpet on the passenger side was wet. I'll have to check this out.
Thanks for posting this.
Cool, that's probably it. It looked like there were gaskets under the clips at one time but all that was left were a few brittle pieces.
I recently fixed her trunk leak too. I found three places water was entering that weren't the trunk lid gasket or tail light gaskets. It seems that Nissan didn't weld the seams well and filled them with caulk that's breaking down. The seams on my 02 are a lot better. I'll add pics of those spots when I get a chance.
Especially the square one on the left? And do both holes empty into the car, or only the one on the left?
Can I just seal the left one with silicone? Or not remove the plastic and just silicone around them? Thanks These 2 holes
I have not done this repair yet, because the leakage is frustratingly intermittent.. Regardless, I would seal around both openings with silicone sealant (RTV as mentioned) just to be sure.
To remove the square one without damaging it, it may be helpful to have a tool that is shaped like a fork or a trim removal tool.
Don't be stingy with the sealant. Maybe use a disposable latex glove to spread the sealant around the opening from the surrounding area (the metal part of the car) and taper it into the plastic square plug, making sure there are no gaps for water to get past.
I would clean the area thoroughly before applying the sealant, to ensure the best bond possible.
Hope someone else chimes in who has done the repair recently and can update this long-slumbering thread. Good luck.

remove the clips, clean very well, dab of ultra black, spread thinly and evenly, install clips, add a little more ultra black but no reason to glob it on there. be sure everything is fully sealed, reassemble. ultra black stays more pliable than ultra grey. normal "rtv" silicone is junk. basically colored fish tank silicone. doesnt hold up.
when i got my 02 someone had slathered silicone all the way up the side of the windshield trying to fix the leak. these holes were NOT my leak but i resealed them anyways as it is a known issue.
