Sccuessfully changed cam sensor, oil and thermostat questions

Hi ya'll! Thanks for the help over the past few months. I just replaced the bad cam sensors and car is running better. However, the check engine light is still on, but I think it's because of the thermostat needs to be replaced. Is this easy to do? Can i use a third party part?

Also while changing the cam sensor, I noticed a lot of oil (dried) in the area. Is this normal? How do I clean it up? Once again thanks!

get the codes scanned first. A bad thermostat will not set off a check engine light if im not mistaken.
