So I forgot to put my oil cap back on after a fill

Yeah, huge error on my end. Forgot to put the oil cap back on after refilling because I got distracted. I drove a good 50 miles or so without it on. No oil pressure light and the car ran fine. I did smell a little bit of burning oil and once I got home I checked under the hood, only a little bit of spill. I'm going to check oil level in the morning after it cools down and definitely but a cheap little cap from the auto parts store when I have a chance tomorrow. Any negative effects of running without a cap? Thanks in advance!

As long as it wasn't raining, I think you're ok.

Unless you were driving in bad weather when water and stuff could get into the engine, there is nothing bad that will happen. Maybe some oil splashes out, but that's about it.

My car always smells like if it's burning a lot of oil. I only drive to school and back. When I get home, all I smell is oil. Is there any way to fix this? I'm trying to sell it and I'm trying to fix everything that's wrong with it. Thanks.

Johnny your post reminds of that gas station scene in the movie Tommy Boy. Except instead of your getting destroyed, I think it should be fine as long as no water or oil starvation.

I've also done that before. 80+ miles.
