Part Find - Transmission Cooling Hoses

Folks:

TO MY QUESTION: The two black hoses that run from the radiator to the transmission, are those replaceable by an exact replacement hose or do I have to buy hose that looks similar (not my preference) at a local auto parts store? Some I've looked at online don't list those two hoses as parts.

THE STORY:

After I replaced my radiator on my 2000 SE, one of the trans cooling lines that runs to the radiator blew out; I lost all my ATF. Fortunately, my daughter, who was driving it at the time, quickly pulled it over when it started to act strange and when she heard some noise from the front end (oil spraying on the fans).

My hope is the trans didn't get hurt since she stopped it so quickly. It was a short drive, so trans was still not fully warm. So keeping my fingers crossed.

Yes, I should have replaced those hoses when I replaced my upper and lower radiator hoses. Live and learn.

Thanks for your time.

TKH

The factory transmission hoses are molded and hold their shape. If you buy generic hose at your local auto parts store, it won't have the 90º corners. I don't see that as being a problem.

Sometimes your local auto parts store will have custom hoses, but I couldn't find them on autozone's web site. You would have to ask them to look it up.

As for damaging the transmission, I doubt it. If it lost all the oil, the clutches would have released and not been slipping for any length of time.

Thanks for the details, Cornholio. My issue now is none of the local dealers have those hoses in stock. So my options are a) order both, pay $40 bucks (plus shipping) and wait a week or b) use hose the auto stores sell locally for $15.00 and install tomorrow.

The question for you and others if whether or not folks think 2 hoses that don't have the per-formed shape might rub badly over time and burst per-maturely. If so, I wonder if I can buy a hose guard that could protect the non-OEM hoses.

Now that I think about it, I could just wrap the hose, in the places where it touches our could possibly touch, with about 5 or 10 wraps of electrical tape. That would add a good insulation layer. Anyone have a better idea?

I put in hosing from autozone when I installed my transmission cooler over 200,000 miles ago and no issues.

I was looking at my car and if you were to use generic, non-formed hose, I don't really think that they would touch each other.
