Engine oil cap always tight

I do my own oil changes so I make sure not to over-tighten the oil cap. Yet every time I go to open it, it's tight as hell. Doesn't matter if the engine's hot or cold. I've resorted to carrying pliers in my trunk since that's the only way to get it off. Pretty annoying.

LOLOLOLOL. This is the nissan curse. Impossible to remove oil caps and retarded dipstick design.

Yeah. The 3 liter cars have one that clicks when it's tight like the gas cap but the 3.5 just screws tight. I always have to fight with mine too. I was thinking a new O-ring would make it better but I haven't gotten around to it. The old O-ring is so hard that it doesn't compress. It just goes from loose to all the way tight.

I'll never understand why they designed the dipstick the way they did. Forget checking the oil if the car hasn't been sitting for a while.

Wow...I've never had that problem. Weak hands for you guys?

I did notice when I put on an aftermarket aluminum one it was tighter than the stock. I had a 3.0. There was an o-ring on the aftermarket...I'm sure without it, probably would have froze to the head.

Try changing your o-ring or install one if it doesn't have an o-ring.

Wish I could say that about my 97. It was like a child proof cap - no-one over the age of 3 could remove it.

Actually I have lost a little strength in my hands due to some minor arthritis. I can still remove the cap on a 3.0 with no problem.

The 3.5 cap is much tighter. Also, if you use the engine cover, the cap is recessed. You have to reach down and use your fingers instead of getting a good grip.

I use an adjustable wrench to remove my oil cap.
