Dash lights out, checked fuses ...
My son has a 2000 maxima and the dash lights quit working. I have been through both fuse boxes searching for the culprit. The dash lights as well as the ac lights just stopped working. Any advice would be appreciated.
The dash lights are powered by the tail light fuse (which is under the hood), so if you have tail lights, it is not a fuse problem.
Let's try something real easy for starters. Move the brightness control on the dimmer control switch from end to end several times and see if that does anything. That may clean a dirty connection inside the control.
The car has 2 categories of dash lights - ones that dim and ones that don't. The ones that dim are the instrument cluster, left & right front door switches, auto trans shifter, radio, 6 disc CD player, the hazard switch, a/c controls and a couple others.
The ones that don't dim are the ash tray light, the glove box light, the clock, the side view mirror control switch and the switches in the rear doors.
If all the dimmable lights are out, it could be the dimmer control switch.
