2000 Infiniti I30 passenger side mirror

Dumb me was backing out of my garage and I clipped the black plastic housing of the mirror on the side of the garage

Fortunately the mirror swiveled back a bit preventing it from being totally destroyed. But, the black plastic housing broke in a few places and I was not able to super glue all the pieces back together, but did the best I could. The mirror operates fine and while I can super glue the gold trim piece back on (I put it on for the picture but did not glue it), because I could not utilize all the broken pieces, as you can see, there will be a gap.

I watched a YouTube on replacing the passenger side mirror and it is more than I can handle. And since the after market trim piece mirror comes in black, I would need to get it painted tan/gold like the current one which matches the color of the car.

My question is, since the only problem is the housing, can just the housing piece be purchased and changed (easily)? If not, I am leaning toward super gluing the tan/gold back on and calling it a day. It would than look like the picture.

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I would not bother fixing it when you can get a replacement part for under $40 (for example, http://www.partsgeek.com/j2fnwb1-inf...nfiniti+Mirror ).

It looks like the same mirror as the Maxima. I don't know if the trim is available separately but I do know that my local U-pull it yard has a few Maximas and maybe an I35 that I could pull one from. I looked at it on my car and it doesn't look too challenging.

Check your local U-pull it yard to see if they have any cars you could pull one off of. In the process you'll see how it goes together without risking your own car. If you mess it up out there you just leave it.

If not, let me know and we can work something out.

That's the plan right there if you don't want to go the the salvage yard! I didn't think it would be so cheap.

It's really not that hard to change out and you should be able to swap your colored shell with the black one.

Thanks for your reply's!

For approximately $40, it seems the Dorman replacement is the way to go instead of trying to find one at a salvage yard. A friend of a friend owns a local body shop and I will go by there this week to see the cost of him installing it.

I really hope that I can swap the black shell with my tan/gold one. I guess that all depends if the Dorman replacement is manufactured as one complete unit. Unfortunately I think it is, because when I look online I read "Can be painted by the buyer to any color desired or installed as is". If that is the case, I would guess that the body shop has a bunch of resources for second hand mirrors where he could get the correct color.

Any other thoughts please let me know and thanks again!

Another question comes to mind. As I have been looking online, it appears that some of the mirrors are heated and others are not. I have no idea if mine is or is not.

Did some 2000 Infiniti I30 passenger side mirrors come with heated mirrors and others not? If so, how would I find out if mine is heated? If it is heated, do I need to replace mine with another heated mirror?

Thanks!

The cover is a separate piece that can be removed and replaced, so you don't have to replace the whole mirror. The right side cover is part number K6373-2Y20A with a MSRP of $80.35! Junkyard sound real good to me.

If you have a heated mirror, you would have a rocker switch by the position control switch.

Thanks so much for your reply!

I found a number of OEM passenger side mirrors on Ebay for under $40. The colored cover, in my case tan/gold (I gave the dealer the VIN and he said the color is "EVO"), did not break. It is the end of black plastic that the cover snaps into (your second picture) that broke. So since the colored cover can be removed, it does not make a difference which color mirror I purchase on Ebay.

I do not see a rocker switch (do not know what a "position control switch" is), but since I do not have heated seats, I assume that I do not have heated mirrors. Would this be correct?

By position control switch, I am referring to the switch you use to make the mirrors move, i.e., position the mirrors. I will admit that I have no idea what infiniti or nissan calls it.

And I lied to you about switches. There are no switches for heated mirrors. I was thinking of the wrong car.

The heated mirrors are turned on when you turn on the rear window defroster, no separate switches. I suppose the easiest way to tell if you have the heated mirrors is to see if you have the relay for them. It is under the hood in the box by the power steering oil reservoir. In the end towards the firewall, in the corner next to the fender, the cover will say MIRROR HEATER. Remove the cover and see if you have a relay there. Being that your car is an Infiniti, you will probably have the relay.

There are no relay's under "Mirror Heater", "Horn 3", or "Lamp".

However, I do have a rear window defroster

Infiniti and Nissan do not install a relay if the associated option is not built into the car.

Great!

I found a non-heated 2000 I30 passenger side mirror on Ebay for $36, including tax and shipping, that I will purchase (see picture). My tan/gold (EVO is the Infiniti color) plastic cover is in better condition (it did not break when I clipped the side of the garage), so I will remove the cover from the mirror I purchase and replace it with my cover.

Thanks for all your help!!
