Unbearable noise in front end of car
I have a 2000 Maxima SE.Last morning my car started making this loud whining, grinding agaisnt something noise coming from the front end of the car.
Only happens when im in drive or reverse. Never in idle. Also, while in park, I hear a little tick tick tick sound also. Regardless, the sound is unbearable and it sounds like my car will lock up if I even try to drive on it. Any help with this matter would be appreciated cause I have to take a bus and Uber to work .

How are the drive belts doing? Mine did this when my idler pulley was on its way out. Just in case, any oil in the engine and it's condition and how's the tranny fluid being that this only occurs in a drive gear?

if i had to guess, grinding sound = bearings. r/r them in pairs, i just did all four at once. if you can,do a '12-6' and '9-3' push/pull to check for play on your tires, while car is jacked up. should be no play.
while in there, may as well check all your connections points and boots for deterioration/failure in your in the front end:
ball joint, cv boots both inner and outer, tie rod ends, front sway bar end links, front sway bar bushings
fronts have to pressed into knuckle, which require some wrench skills, removing the axles, etc. the rears are cake, r/r. if you have ABS brakes, just make sure to get the abs with tone ring, otherwise you will get a abs yellow light in dash as you pass 80mph.
