Man rear hub bearings are pricey!

After recently doing the rear hub bearing on my Accord, I decided to price the part for fun on my I35. Timken is the only bearing brand I trust and it's like $125, and this is without wheel studs and ABS tone ring .

I put a Made in USA Timken on my Accord and it was only $55 w/studs & tone ring already attached. It's the same general design as the Maxima but half the price. What gives here? Of course there are cheaper ones available but they have garbage Chinese bearings that won't make it 10,000 miles.

All of the imports seem to do very well. Over 200k is very common before failure.

Now, chryslers....at 50k....

Timken 512203
I35 $88.99 and it fits:
Infini I30-'00/'01
Infini I35-'02-'04
Maxima '00-'03

Something interesting if one were to look at the 2002 Accord hub
part numbers:
Timken 512179 $62.79
Moog 512179 $61.79
Raybestos 712179 $53.79
Mevotech H512179 $29.79
Dura 29512179 $26.79
WJB WA512179 $20.89

Too much of a coincidence to be different manufacturers. Similar to Delco
products, they don't manufacture their parts, they're from a generic supplier.

The same situation exists with the '00 Max numbers.

Part #s on bearings tend to stay the same from manufacturer to manufacturer. This is for any sort of bearings, not just automotive. It's sort of like oil filters and other parts.

That being said, there probably are just a handfull of manufacturers making these for different brands.

Not to start a debate, but I would believe that most manufacturers will create their own internal ID for products they produce.
As stated above, let's take oil filters, for the 2002 Accord:
ACDelco PF1127
BeckArnley 0418163
Bosch 3312
Champ LabsPH2808
Denso 1502006
Fram PH3593A
Hastings LF240Mahle OC707
Mann ML1002
Motorcraft FL810
Mobil M1104
Pro-Tec 152
Pronto PO4459
Ultra Power 51334
Wix 51334

The only duplicate number is the Ultra Power and Wix filter. Now I don't know if
Wix makes the Ultra Power oil filter, but numbers are the same.

That sounds about right, however I'm not surprise the Timken does not have a abs tone ring for it, but I know other makes of bearings do, I got Dura brand from rockauto it has the tone ring and the stud on it, I have no issues thus this far.
