Console Molding
Console Molding
I just bought a 2001 Maxima and it has a broken molding piece around the radio and air vents. Anyone know that part number or the name of the piece or where I can get one cheap or used?
Thanks.

You should become familiar with your local U-Pull it style junk yards. These places stock older cars that aren't worth stripping and inventorying. They let you wander the yard and pull what ever you want from an engine to a bolt. If you have to rip something up to get it it's ok.
You can get pieces that aren't available or are only available as a larger purchase. A good example is harness plugs.
The parts are very cheap but bring your own tools.

This site is great for finding used parts if you don't want to leave the house. It searches yards all over the country for your part and you call the yards to buy the part.
Or, take a picture of it. There are a few variations of the vent/radio trim.
The trim piece is only half there. The other half is broken off. I'm guessing the last owner didn't know how to get the radio out properly and accidentally broke it...or someone broke into the car and broke it stealing the radio.
I'm kicking myself for forgetting to check for that at the junk yard a few hours ago when I was looking through some cars for an adjustable headrest. Oh well. It was hot as hell and I wanted to get out of there as quickly as I could. lol Dallas is toasty today.

Is it easy to break the molding when you pull it out? Is there a very specific way to do it so you don't break it, or is it pretty easy and self-explanitory? Mine's broken, so I'm not sure how easy a normal one is to remove.
If you search there are instructions for removing the stereo.
It's been a while but, if I remember correctly, you have to pop out the vents above the stereo to access the trim screws. You may have to remove the lower trim too. If you pop the inside of the ashtray out there's a screw hidden behind it.

Generally, you lift the radio vents upwards and pull outwards. But if you have a GXE or some other trim, OR are referring to a different part altogether, the procedure varies.

www.nissanpartsasap.com. This is a Nissan dealer in Tennessee. They offer all the parts manuals online, so you can find the part numbers. Their prices are pretty good, too.
Second request. Please post pictures of what you're trying to do. Based on your description, I have a sneaking suspicion that theres a key piece of information missing - like perhaps you have a GXE trim. But please post at least one picture of your setup.

What are the ways to tell which model Maxima I have? There are no markings on it to tell me which one I just bought.
Thanks.

Or, research the differences and see which characteristics your car has. Wheels, spoiler, leather, interior trim and other features can surely help you determine.
Well, rims won't help. Somebody put Dodge rims on it. It's cloth interior. No spoiler. No sunroof. No power seats. Does have power windows, but I bet they all have that. Cruise control.
Maybe I can call the dealer Monday.
Thanks.
