Attemp to steal broken ignition

My car was broken into last night, guess the tried some random key. Now my key won't budge in ignition. I have a maxima 2000 SE. Can I remove ignition cylinder and take it to be rekeyed? I believe I have NAT security issues also.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes you can. Remove the plastic covers from around the steering column (phillips head screws on the bottom) and you will be able to. The hard part is that the bolts that hold the ignition key cylinder in have a rounded head like a carriage bolt to make it difficult. You can cut a slot in the head and use a flat blade screwdriver or you can drill the bolts out.

I have a steering column from a 00-01 max if you need parts off it. I can remove the lock if that is all you need. I have the key to go with it but the plastic is cracked. You can always remove the immobilizer chip from your key and put it into another key so you don't have to go to a specialist to program anything.

Omg thanks for such quick replies! I did remove the ignition n took it to be drilled yea!! Only 60$ the mobile locksmith wanted 250!! But now I have a prob with that plastic shroud covering the steering column. Jeezuz do I have to take out the whole dash board to fit the shroud back in there?

Are you talking about the covers that go over the ignition switch area? You don't have to remove anything to put them on.
