Got bored, poly filled trans, pas mount
Got bored, poly filled trans, pas mount
While I wait to install my es inserts I dug up my old trans mount and it was stressed but sturdy. The mount on the car that was new is squishy a hell so I decided to just fill the old one and slap it in. Grabbed a passenger side mount aswell to fill because the one on the car can be twisted with hand strength. God they were so cheaply built. I drilled them out and filled them with 3m window weld and they are currently curing. I can't wait to test them out and use my inserts aswell.
I just went to the pull a part to get a front engine mount. I filled it with window weld. Im unsure of wheter or not to install it on my car because the plug is cut off. The harness on the mount on my car is still plugged in but the mount is bad. Would it make any difference if they are plugged in or not? And my other option is to buy one from amazon for $44 with the cheaper metal, but im thinking why buy one when i already have one filled with window weld?

Kool beans man My replacement front mount has been curing for 2 months lol as i was deciding on what to do with it. Got a spare cross member and new rear engine mount so i guess this will be my task for this weekend. Do i need something to support the engine when the cross member is out ?

These have finaly cured. I was going to install them earlier in the week but it felt a little too soft so I left them outside. To my luck we have had some horrible humidity up here in NY and after 2 days of gross feeling air, the mounts were more solid then ever. I could barely bend the middle bolt hole out of center. My current bushings on the pas and driver side look preloaded upward so I'm thinking that these will put that preload on the front/rear mounts and keep the engine at bay for now. They are preloaded due to the subframe and crossmember washer mod.

The subframe holds most of the front suspension and it has four main bushings. The crossmember that holds the motor up also has 4 main bushings. These both are here to make your ride more enjoyable however at 220000 miles they were doing the opposite of that. They were so shot I could squish some of them in my hand, others were torn in half.
The washers are put in instead of the bushings between the chassis and the parts. This makes the connection solid and your suspension will be tighter due to less slop on the component (subframe) that may be holding other worn components. I didn't get any extra vibrations either. The crossmember washers hold the engine tighter but if your on stock mounts the extra pressure not going to the member is going to the mounts and will kill them quicker.

I must say you are right again man!! Just did my mounts yesterday on my i35 and to my surprise the front mount was still good and the rear was cracked a bit. And they have plugs on both mounts wow. I am going to keep those and prob fill with window weld in the broken areas. I had another cross member and bought a new mount for the rear, and filled a used mount with window weld for the front. Car rides great and much more responsive now. ALso the engine did not move when i removed the cross member. What an easy job!! And saved some money in the process and the whole job was about an hour and a half.
