Help with hub nut
Help with hub nut
Replaced front wheel bearing and now hub nut comes loose when driving. I torqued nut to spec. Should a new nut be used, heard they were self locking. Would blue thread locker work using old nut. Thanks in advance.
Every once in a while someone has this problem. There does not seem to be a "do this and you are good to go" solution. I don't think the nuts are self locking as new nuts spin freely on the axle. A self locking nut will not do this.
You could try thread locker, but you will have to let it sit for a while so that it is completely dry and set up before driving. Another possibility is to use a lock nut.

It wouldn't be a problem having the car sit for 24 hrs letting the thread locker set. Really surprised there isn't a castle nut on the axle. Not even a washer behind the nut. Guess I'll try the thread locker. I don't wanna over torque the nut and fry the new bearing, us know?
Thread lock should work, but if it comes loose, then you haven't tightened it enough. Hammer it on with a good impact. Put that **** on at 250 ft lbs and you won't have a problem. Loose nuts = dead wheel bearings.
I'm finally used to driving the beast. It has one nasty blind spot in the right rear. Pickup trucks can hide in it, it is a real problem. It is pretty comfortable to ride in, though. Lexus has several problem areas. The power steering rack likes to go out. Inside, the plastic Toyota used doesn't hold up to sunlight. The dashboard cracks and the door panels melt. Toyota will fix it under an extended warranty, but it takes over a year to get parts.
