Here in the U.S., the wire harness connector for the ECM was changed for the 2000 model cars. It will not plug into a 1999 or older ECM.

I guess that I did not understand you correctly.

Your signature (name) is Walkabout Nissan maxima a 32.
In the United States, A32 is a 1995 to 1999 Maxima. The 2000 to 2003 maxima is A33.

Because you posted a picture of a 2001 ECU, I guess that means you have an A33 Maxima.

I think the ECM is the same for the 2 liter and 3 liter engines. I have found a service manual for the 2000 Maxima QX that was sold in Europe. Internet link is http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Maxima/2000/

Section EM (Engine Mechanical) gives specifications on page 72 for both 2 liter and 3 liter engines. Section EC (Engine Control) on page 114 gives the ECM wire connection pin numbers and wire colors. It does not mention engine size.

The ECM is a computer. I do not know if the program in the ECM is the same or different for 2 and 3 liter engines.

I do not know what all the numbers mean. Nissan will not tell us. The numbers are probably codes for the different options.

You are correct that the ECM for an automatic transmission car is different than the ECM for a manual transmission car. But if the transmission type is the same and the ECM is for the same year car, it will work.

When you change the ECM, you will have to get the keys and remote re-programmed.

I do not know what this fastclip is. Our ECM all have a 10mm bolt to hold the connector on.

I made a mistake. The ECM for the 1995 to 1999 cars use the 10 mm bolt. 2000 to 2003 use the fast clip. I don't know why I made that mistake.

Thank you for correcting me.
