Alternator: best one to buy?

Hi guys,

Long story short: three alternators in three years. Had one from Advance, voltage regulator died just over a year later. Had the Nissan dealer replace with one of theirs; died one year and four days later (Nissan wouldn't honor their one year warranty), bad regulator. Replaced with another Advance auto one, because I was broke and still had the first one that failed, and got their "lifetime replacement" done. That lasted a month before the bearing started to groan.

The car still runs great, so I'm going to keep it, BUT which alternator is the most reliable? I know both Advance auto parts were remanufactured, and the receipt from Nissan said it was rebuilt.

Any help?

Thanks,

Jack

Big bucks for brand new Hitachi or grab a lower mileage one from junkyard.

I feel odd that alts keep dying on your Maxi. I had a brand new Ultra-8 2 years ago and still running well except occasional whining(yeah, it's about time). I heard that Ultra-8 is a China cheap crap but, hey, it still works.

I have a feeling, just a feeling that maybe your driving belt is too tight? Sometimes yeah, it crashes bearings.

Except that he already had two fail from VRM. It will last a lot longer than this even if the belt is over-tightened. Chickity China Junk
