Need help
I don't think anyone has done it, but seeing the process of swapping 3.5's into 2001 and earlier models I don't see why not. Components of the 3.0 probably have to come with it, as I believe some components of the 3.5 have to go with it when doing it the other way.
I'm sure it could be done but why? I'm guessing you have easy access to a 3.0 motor.
People have put 3.5 liter motors into older generations but it's been as an upgrade. Not as a practical swap to get a car back on the road.
You'll have ECU, engine harness and throttle control issue just to start with.
I'm pretty sure it would be cheaper to just find a 3.5 liter and slide it right in.

sound like you have to do a lot of work, such as getting ECM, throttle body for sure since 3.5 is electronically control and the 3.0 is cable operated where you have to get a gas pedal and throttle cable as well with the cruise control. it might be feasible if you have a lot of cash to burn to do it, otherwise like most org says just get another 3.5 motor and save yourself the headaches and the expense trying to make a 3.0 work

I think I found an old thread that may help https://maxima.org/forums/5th-genera...me-engine.html

I think point number 3 is not true for the newer engines, and from my understanding only 02-03 will go in without any modifications. And it would be easiest finding an engine that was with the same transmission pairing as the one you currently have.

FFS i just answered this question in another post yesterday
1. 02-08 3.5 FWD engines
2. 04+ need upper/lower oil pans swapped and intake Manifold swapped along with the 2 sensors for the crank
3. Any Nissan
product that is FWD and has a 3.5 engine will work minor differences but parts off of the old engine fix that!
