2002 Maxima Engine Blew - Engine Swap Options?

My 2002 Maxima engine finally gave out at 210k. Kind of unexpected, but thats how these things work.

I want to keep the car, it was my first car and I just want to keep it. I know it's not a good decision financially.
  1. Which engines fit the 2002 maxima that a shop can insert? I would prefer a newer engine with a bit more power than 255hp if possible but I'm not too picky.
  2. Where would I go to get work like this done and how much would it run me?
  3. Where should I search and find a used engine?

3. Any Nissan product that is FWD and has a 3.5 engine will work minor differences but parts off of the old engine fix that!
Or you can go the way of the 5.7 gen swap for some extra power. Here is Freezer's recent thread on his swap https://maxima.org/forums/5th-genera...l#&gid=1&pid=4

An older thread http://www.nissanclub.com/forums/mem...maxima-vq.html

I can't answer question 2, but for the third question a site called car-part.com is a good place to start.

wow, at 210k miles, considering the known problem with the rings and the oil burning, that lasted you long. Well If I would look for engine from the 6gen however if you can afford a reman engine from engine rebuilder, I would go that route.

Awesome thanks for the replies this really helps.

I'm surprised the car lasted this long I had an internal oil leak for 6 years. I was a fool and got the oil issue fixed a few months back only for it to give out now.

I can afford a remanufactured engine I just don't know if they're trustworthy.

depends on who the supplier, I know Surefire engine have very good rep and they are warrantee for three years unlimited miles. I would look into it.

I think you mean the 7th gen for the 5.7 swap.

I wouldn't recommend a 6th gen engine because of their timing chain issues.
