Solid bucket lifters ...ticking noise (02 maxima)
Has anyone ever had a ticking noise coming from their rear valve cover ? After doing research I found out that these buckets can wear out with time and can cause a gap between the cam lobe and the bucket itself , resulting in that annoying ticking sound , therefore since 5.5 gens have solid buckets instead of the shim type like the ones found in the 5 gens the the only way to get rid of the tick is to replace the bucket with the proper thickness/ size , my question is has anyone on the forum actually performed this job themselves? Seems pretty straight forward, measure the gap between the cams and the buckets and get the proper size bucket to bring it back to specs , also have to take the camshaft off , any advice and or input would be greatly appreciated

I wouldn't even bother fixing this. This is MANY hours of labor (personally, I wouldn't do it without pulling the engine, either).
You are correct on the process.
HR swap or drive it as is, if you ask me.
If you intend to repair it, then you might as well go full bolt ons or it's a gigantic waste of time lol
Murphyslaw has done it.

Your engine ran low on oil and it hammered at least one of the buckets.

I don’t think a lifter tick would cause a misfire.
The only way the camshafts are coming out is it the timing chain is removed, and that in of itself is a lot of work, on top of replacing the buckets themselves. It will be a lot of time.
