Two 2k2s just got back from the track!!!

well first of all, we're not gonna talk about my lame 15.1 b/c, well, that would be pointless and no one wants to hear my excuses

eric (ehughes), on the other hand got 14.6, which i found to be damn good considering it was the first time at the track

i was stock except for tires (Pilot Sport A/S) and had full sound system in trunk

eric was stock except for stillen intake and had his full sound system in trunk

me leaving track:
eric leaving track:

i'm gonna cry myself to sleep now b/c i have to wake up early tomorrow for happier things (VB mod)

Finally made it home! Matt it was not that bad! For those that like the numbers...and can tell me what they mean, here is my best run for the night:

R/T 1.54
60' 2.178
330' 6.149
1/8 9.416
MPH 75.79
1000'12.252
1/4 14.688 @ 92.52 mph

My first time at the track went a little better than expected. Now if I could just find an easy way to remove the 80 lb speaker box and receiver hitch! Maybe I could take my headlights off like a mustang we saw at the track.

How was your launching technique ehughes?

Both of you have autos right? So how much do you think the SI helped out? Btw, if he had the SI, he's not stock anymore.

Both Autos, no VB mod yet. I have the SI. The SI may have helped some, who knows. As for the launch, after a brief wheelspin past the water, I put it in drive and followed yo_its_ok's directions. I braked, revved to about 2k, let off the brake and "rolled" into the gas. It seemed to work well. I tried to manual shift on the last run and did 14.85. I actually shifted from 1st to 3rd on accident, but I don't think it hurt (the 2.35 60' did though!) I could tell that the auto shift from 2nd to 3rd lost a lot of revs, so maybe Don's VB will help a little.

What do you mean "rolled" into the gas? Hogan explained before in a thread, but I still don't understand it. This is what I think what you are saying: brake torque to 2k rpms, let brake go, ease into gas for a split second, then slam on the gas? I know when I did this when I still had the SC gave me a better launch because of less wheel spin. I never tried it at the track though.

I just came back from track and I did 15.09 @ 92mph. Tried to do a 2nd run but my car went on limp mode again. This is the second time this has happened to me, and both times at the track. This may be the last time that I bring my car at the tracks.

WOW!!!

That is one kick-a$$ 60' time!

How exactly did you launch? What were your tire pressures set at? With a 60' time like that minus system/spare you would have been in the low-14's for sure.

Thanks. I started to lower the pressure in the front tires, but stopped when I realized I forgot my gauge. So probably F 29/R 32.

The start..I did a brief wheelspin before, then staged with the revs up to around 2k, foot on brake. On green, I let off the brake and "rolled" (best word for me to explain) into the gas. I did not start moving and "slam" the pedal. The accelerator movement was gradually quicker to the floor. Three of my 60' times were 2.29 or better. I got Don's VB mod today, so hopefully I can shave a tenth or so. BTW, Don sure does know his stuff.

I didn't know you guys stayed there so late! I got off work around 15 to 7. Didn't think you'd still be there if i tried

Me stupid.

Good runs! Dang, given i'm completely stock with hardly any weight on board i could have slapped your times silly just kidding.

So how does the VB mod feel so far?

No worries. You missed a good time.

The VB mod is barely noticable a normal speeds. I did not get crazy given we just had the mod done. Hopefully, I can make it to San Antonio next Friday for the import drag races. That should be a good test of the VB mod.

Tell me about it. For the days previous to this i actually dreamed about running... i had the whole launching thing perfected in my thoughts.

Next time.

Good to know both of you guys finally had the VB done. Did it take long?

Next time, I may remove the sub box. As Mattattax will attest, the box is pretty big.

IMO...If you ran 14.69 stock (good run), then I bet the intake alone will shave .1 -.2 off. VB Mod hopefully .1 - .2 as well. Y-pipe, if it will put an extra 15-20 hp at the wheels, .2 off. UDP, i have no idea. So all the mods and a great launch and you could be 13.9! Doesn't that sound like fun.

I have the same mods in mind and have a goal of High 13's.

I don't even know when to really GO! Nobody explained that to me. I would wait until I was sure it was green and hit it. I suppose I should search "track basics 101".
