Rear Speakers Not Working

Hi guys,

I have searched this forum and done a general Google search and although I have found information on replacing the head unit, installing amps and such I have not found what I am looking for.

My stock sound system in my 2001 Maxima is no longer playing music from the rear speakers. How should I go about trouble shooting this issue. The unit still operates normally and the front speakers work without issue.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Amp is shot. Grab one from eBay or a junkyard. A cheap way to troubleshoot. Just a few screws/bolts and a couple harnesses. Easily accessible from the trunk.

Do you have a factory Bose or standard audio system?

One thing to check is the front/rear fader. Maybe the rear speakers are turned off.

If the speakers are turned on, then in a non-Bose system, the radio head unit is bad.

If you have a Bose system, it could be the head unit or the amplifier in the trunk.

Thank you. I will see if I can access the amp from the trunk on my next day off.

I checked the front/rear fade and they are not turned off. I will start with the amp in the trunk. Thanks.

The non Bose system does not have an external amp. Either the rear channels on the factory radio are shot or the speakers are. Either way get a new head unit, come in to the new age. Ive been an installer for almost 20 years, kept my certification for the first 5 years after i joined the military. Very common problem.

Your line, "come in to the new age" made me laugh. Thanks I will look at a new new head unit.

Look into the JVC kw-v830bt , 24 bit DAC, 13 band eq, 4 volt pre outs, android auto and apple car play and a whole lot more. The menu screens may not be as sexy as the pioneers and others but the processor is faster and you will get much better sound quality. Ler me know if you have any other questions.
