I was driving along the other day listening to a cd, turning into a parking lot, when my rear speakers broke out into a very loud hum. The front two speakers still work fine but my rear two speakers (I still have all the original bose by the way) only hum very loudly. If I change the volume of the cd player, the front two speaders respond, but the rear two just hum at the same loud level. As long as the stereo is on at all they hum. It is very loud and has caused me to not be able to listen to music anymore in my maxima! I took out my stereo to look to see if i'd had any wires crossing or anything, but it looks ok (though i'm not a stereo expert in the least degree). Is it maybe the wire connection at the rear speakers? Is it a fuse of some kind? Any ideas at all. I'd REALLY appreciate some help on this, i miss my music. Thanks!

amps are probably blown on the rear speakers.

Would they both blow at the exact same time?

possibly i highly doubt its a wiring short from factory. im just gonna guess that its the amps since there is no internal amplifier in the headunit, instead each speaker has its own internal amp.

Sorry, you're probably totally right, i double checked and it's actually only 1 speaker that is humming loudly, the other works fine but it just drowns out the other's sound, haha. Thanks so much for the help, it probably is the amp. If anyone else has any ideas I'd love to hear them. Thanks again DcMaN!

So what exactly can I do with a speaker with a blown amp? Do I have to get a whole new speaker? Any brands recommended?

i think you can buy the amps seperatly as long as the speaker isnt blow, look around on ebay or something or here on the org im sure some one has a amp and speaker or one of them layin around.

hopefully by now you have disconnected that speaker,that way you can listen to your music.

Yeah I disconnected the speaker so I can listen again. I haven't been able to look for a new speaker/amp at all yet, I'll have to see what I come up with. Could I use a totally different speaker with its own amp? I don't know if it would connect right with the wires or if it would be louder or softer than the others.
