Rear speakers not working?

My dad just got a 92 GXE. I just put a after market head unit in it today. I have no clue if the rear speakers worked before but now I am not getting any sound from them. I used a test meter and I am getting current coming from the deck and I am getting it on the other side of the harness as well. But when I test for current at the speakers I am not getting any. What gives? Is there a relay or fuse somewhere for the rear speakers? This is a non bose set up and the car looks new, the speakers are original and nothing has been tampered with. Can any one help me out? I would like to figure this out tomorrow and I really don't want to run new wires to the rear speakers. Thanks for any help.

they were still amplified in the rear IIRC
look for a black box between the 2 speakers

so if thats the case would i need to pick up the wires before the rear amp then run them straight to the speakers?

Also would that amp be in the trunk or on top of the parcel shelf?

I recently put a new head unit in 1992 Max with same result. You need to make sure the blue accessary power wire is hooked up to the head unit because it powers the rear active speaker system. Without it the rear speakers don't get any current.

Great first post man!!! Thats exactly what it was. All the speakers work now. Now I just have to run the wires for the amp and I'll be done.

For future reference, I took the seats out, and I did not see anything that would be an amp. for this non bose system.

The amp in my 1990 australian spec maxima was a circular module made by clarion. I had the same problem. I wouldnt worry about that small amp. Its only 8w rms * 2 i hear. Most aftermarket headunits produce 20w rms per channel.

Yeah I had some circle thing over by driver side rear speaker. I did not bypass that (the rear speakers are much louder than the front now...I may just use the fader to even them out). Now the issue I am having is that my amp is not turning on. I have rechecked everything 10 times and the amp is not powering up. What am I forgetting? I have a power wire running from the battery. I hooked the remote wire from the deck to a wire running to the trunk, and I grounded the amp in the trunk. What gives?

I didn't realize it was only 8 Watts, but tied to my headunit (an older Alpine) the rear speakers sound oh so much nicer than the front ones (which can barely be heard; really need to amp up the front speakers, but I haven't found a good solution yet).

cardana24: I had the same problem a few months after I hooked up my sub, turned out the remote turn on wire (blue I think) that turned on the amp for the rear speakers had gotten a little messed up, have you checked that? It could also be the ground is acting up if the amp keeps buzzing and cutting out.

So for a Bose car does this mean that the blue wire on the lead has to be wired to what? I am a little confused ... since I thought the blue one was only for an aftermarket amp turn on power wire.

it depends on how you wire the car.

Yeah check your blue remote wire.. If you cant be bothered doing tests, just bypass the clarion amp and wire your rears straight to the head unit, you'll get a cleaner sound as the clarion amps in our max's are ancient
