Loaded 2002 GLE for $26,935...no joke (long post!).

Seems like a deal to me! But we didn't go for it! Many thanks to Jeff at www.CarBuyingTips.Com for all the great info.

We've been looking to replace my wife's 91GXE and drove a 2000 Acura 3.2TL w/ 28k miles for which they were asking $22,500. Here's the thread I started on this: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?threadid=95190

The wife liked the Acura but we decided to check out new Maximas again since they offer more of everything (power, room, etc.) and of course I'm a Maxima-head.

So we drove a 2002 GLE and she likes it better than the Acura! She's not a car nut be she said that the power, room, and handling were all superior to the used TL. I tell the guy the options we want including Meridian Edition, sunroof, side airbags, floor mats, etc. He goes away and comes back saying that MSRP for the car is about $29,500 but they would give it to us for about $27,500 and offer 0% financing if we put at least $15k down.

So I showed the guy the price quote I got from www.CarsDirect.com which was essentially dealer invoice at $26,154 equipped as I've described. He goes away and comes back with the actual invoice for a car they have on the lot equipped like I've requested and tries to show me that this invoice is higher than what I've shown him. Well, it was...by about $85 since his car also included painted splash guards. I was amazed that the info I got off of the internet matched his actual costs on EVERY option!

After the usual nonsense like "CarsDirect.Com is not in business anymore" or "There's no profit in the car if we sell at invoice" and other assorted foolishness he goes away again. When he comes back he tells me that they WILL sell me the car at their invoice! It was beatuiful man! Unfortunately, they didn't have the color combo we wanted on the lot (Merlot/Blonde) and he wouldn't order one for us, so we walked out. The guy was begging us to take a car he had with a different color combo but a person should be able to get the color they want for the dang car.

It feels good to come from a position of strength!

Your passing up a 26K 2002 Maxima GLE for a 2000 Acura TL with close to 30K mi on it. You have only 2yrs/20K mi left on the warranty. 22,500 $ is not pratical if you add just 4K to that you can be in a brand new car with better features. You can take your carsdirect price quote to any Nissan dealer and they will match it. They might give you BS but you will get the car. I did the same thing and I got my Max for less than what Cardirect.com qouted and the windows were tinted for free.

Good Luck with the Acura though

You misunderstood my post. We did take the CarsDirect quote to the dealer and they did match it. We're not going for the Acura anymore. They didn't have the color combo for the Max that we wanted, that's why we walked.

No I understand the Carsdirect thing just keep shoping that quote around and ask if they can beat that price (what do you have to loose) I don't understand why the dealer can't order the Gle you want it the color combo your aking for they were more than willing to get me my Majestic Blue for the price we agreed on. I guess this depends on location. Good thing you didn't go with the TL. Don't forget you have the power!!!

Amen to that. That dealer wouldn't order the car because he's a fool. He could have sold a car today if he just agreed to order it. So we walked out.

BTW, how much did you get your car for and with what options? That blue is nice!

Jim,

I would be REAL wary of buying a GLE with everything based on the "gremlins", etc. posts we're starting to see out of the 2k2 cars.....seems Nissan bit of more than they could chew...AGAIN...with the 6-speed and the new "flagship" features (heated wheel, navi, etc.)

However, a few who have the auto on the 2k2 seem happy and it has been significantly strengthened....

I just honestly believe the TL is built much better than the Max.....

Re: Re: Loaded 2002 GLE for $26,935...no joke (long post!).

I have the EXACT GLE that you want...2k2 Merlot with the tan leather interior....have Meridian, Traction control, side air bags, sunroof, rear painted splash guards, and sunroof deflector....back in November, I paid $250 over invoice and got the 3.9% financing for 36 months....understand you can do better now with the $1000 rebate...or let the 3.9% go 60 months...very satisfied with this color combo....I really liked the Majestic Blue exterior (this was the one I acutally drove), but the grey interior wasn't as rich looking IMHO as the beige. Don't settle! I have had no woes with mine, and I'm now 4k on the odo.

I haven't had any of the problems those guys were having in that trend but my ABS sensor did die on me around the 2500K mark. Usually with a new car the gremlins come out in the 1st year than for the rest of the ownership experience your good to go. I would say the Acura has better build quality than the MAX though.

Understood, however you also voiced concerns over the durability of the transmission in the other thread. This is no small item.

Also, a NEW 3.2TL would be about $2k more (on carsdirect) than the GLE equipped pretty much the same way.
