Alarm / Security issue

Greetings Maxima drivers!

I am having an issue with my extra fancy Maxima (Infiniti i30t) factory security system...and I hope others here may offer some insight into it.

As the factory system does not have a shock sensor, I set about adding one of my own. It is a pretty easy upgrade, just add a relay, wire the shock sensor to it, and tap the door switch. No splicing or crazy stuff at all, very topical and low impact. Well, got it all hooked up properly (quadruple checked for accuracy) and alas, no worky...

Grumpy that it didn't work, and realizing that I never actually tried to test the security system for proper operation, I removed the shock sensor connections and proceeded to test the factory operation...and discovered that it does not get triggered when it is supposed to. (ie, when doors/hood/trunk are opened without using the key)

Everything appears to work as intended...the panic button sets off the horn and lights...the security blinky light on the dash comes on when it is supposed to, suggesting that it is armed...it LOOKS like it is working. The fob activates and deactivates the locks, and the lights flash as intended. The only problem is that the security system cannot be triggered and activate the starter kill or set off the horn and lights when it is tripped. Keep in mind that I had removed the shock sensor I added before doing all these tests.

The only thing I found that may have caused the issue is that the trunk release mechanism had been messed with by the previous owner, but the fob activates the trunk release mechanism and I hear it click when I use the fob and/or the button on the drivers door...but the trunk does NOT pop up. I have to use the key to open the trunk. I did use the search feature of this site under various key words and did find that others have had issues with the trunk mechanism causing issues with the alarm, but none had the same issue I have with my i30t.

(I realize that this is an i30 and not a Maxima, but the security system is the same...the whole car is much the same other than aesthetics...but the i30 section of this forum gets almost no attention )

I thank you ahead of time for any insight you folks may offer...

Shocksensor? If it's what I think it is save yourself the hassle. The wiring, relays, secu (smart entrance control unit), Nats system (immobilizer), ecu, and door switches are sophisticated for their times, can be complicated to troubleshoot, not to mention some of the wiring you'll be having to play with is ran weird (sunroof power for example, fuse block, secu, power window relay, diode, some random connection I didn't bother finding where it switches from purple to green, sunroof motor, sunroof switch, sunroof motor, ground. That the path of one of the power wires for the sunroof. If you're familiar enough with wiring cough nicoclub cough has the FSMs for the Maxima and should your car as well. If not download your Yeats maxima El fms pdf file cough them cough.

The shock sensor is an easy addition to the factory security system. It merely trips the door switch circuit when activated. A very topical addition, and very easy to install. The most complicated thing about it is knowing how a relay works, which isn't particularly complicated at all. My difficulty is that the factory system appears to work but the alarm does not get triggered when the door, hood or trunk are opened without the key. This is not an 'advanced for its time' system either. Both of my Toyota mk3 Supras, an '87 n/a and a '90 turbo, had security systems that worked in very much the same way as this 2000 i30 system is supposed to work.

I do appreciate your input though, and I did find the FSM at the rival website. Nicosclub doesnt interest me as much as this site does because it seems that nicosclub is all about racing and high performance upgrades...which I have outgrown. All of that go-fast stuff is worthless in the real world of city driving. I will still see all of those go-fast bois at the next stoplight.

I forget my newest car I ever owned was am 03 Sentra so that's why I say advanced. Not to mention Nissan and their wiring, switches, and relays are not the most sensible.

Thank you whostheboog.

I had a '91 NX1600, which was basically a Sentra with a more 'sporty' body. It was previously known as a 'Pulsar NX'. For that price range, there was nothing better than the Sentra. Cheers!

Not sure about the US Maxima/I30's, but the New Zealand Maxima models (which look like I30's) have a delay from time of activation, with either the door lock or remote, to the time it will actually go off. I think the delay is 30 seconds from memory, so if you open the hood, trunk or a door within that time the alarm wont sound.

Regarding the trunk lid not opening with the remote or door button release, does your car have a slide mechanism under the sill of the trunk lid opening, directly under the catch? There will be a cutout in the trim for it. If it is in the down position, it wont allow the remote or button to pop the trunk, but will allow it to be opened with the key. You will still hear the solenoid operating with the remote/button as you describe.

I will look. The timer is related to smart entrance control unit I believe and have read 30 and 45 seconds not sure which one.
