Where is everyone buying ignition coils these days? I know the word is to go OEM only but every dealer i check wants like $100 for 1 which is hard to swallow.

 

Rock Auto has the best price on the coils. Get the Hitachi brand. They are the actual OE coils

 

oe coils were hanshin, not hitachi, but if enough people here can vouch for the hitachi ones i may go that route.

Hitachi automotive is a BIG OEM supplier for Nissan. They probably make most of the engine management systems in Nissans to this day. Nissan Motor and Hitachi are both part of the same parent holding company in Japan, along with several other industrial grade companies. Hitachi (not Nissan) actually manufactured the VH41DE block in my '99 Infiniti q45t, complete with that quasi cross hairs logo they'd been using since the 60's. Buy with confidence. Keeping all that in mind, when I had to replace a coil, I just went and got O'Reillys house brand... LMFAO!!

 

No, no, ..... you can get OEM coils for $32-$37. Here: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...359222&jsn=406. And notice that these coils have "gray dots", so they should be problem-free. I have had them for ~ 12 yrs now.

 

I bought these because I needed 1 then and then another about a year later They're both still working great

I can vouch for pretty much anything made by Hitachi for our cars. Including the coils.

Rock auto usually has the best price. If not they wont be off by much. In the past I would spend WAY too much time searching prices to save $2.00 or so. Now I pretty much order from Rockauto if I'm not getting a part from the junk yard.

I wouldn't be afraid of Junk yard coils if they have the dot. By now most of them have been changed.

 

 

are these service item that wears out or degrades over time?

i was gonna do plugs and wires then realized i had no idea what to order.

 

There are no "wires" like on older cars.

I would swap coils when they fail. I recently swapped my original coils trying to diagnose an issue but it wasn't the coils. They were fine at over 250,000 miles.

 

Yeah, switch them when they go out, they don't degrade. They kind of just say goodbye

Get a good set of plugs too. All the work we have to do to get the back 3, damn

 

We're lucky to have the bullet proof 3.0 so no hassle on the rears

 

i just put new plugs 6-7k miles ago, wasn't really planning on replacing them this go through.

 

my 3.0 has rough at idle at times. i know it needs maintenance maybe new plugs. what are you all running for new plugs? sounds like 1 or 2 spare coils might be good to have on hand.
