pre load on control arm

pre load on control arm
hello.
so i was watching a youtube vid on installing these and the way to tq down the front nut is to pre load the weight of the car on the arm before tightening it to 120ft/lb.
So what happens if you just torque it down with the car in the air unloaded?

Im certainly no expert but having done control arms twice on two seperate maxs and never having issues despite never following those instructions; i wouldnt worry about it. Id imagine they tell you to do that because the torque values would maybe be different based on the load on the bushings. I always put the high value of the recommended torque range, as i said never had problems.
I will say that you will want to make sure that all the bolts are lined up. Theres a specific order you want to put the bolts in otherwise you could very easily crossthread them, wish i remembered how it went but its been years. Once you get the tighetening pattern correct its cake. Just be extra careful with the bolts to make sure you arnt forcing them in.
If anything, torque the stuff down to the specified range. Let the car down off the jack and then check the values again to be sure once its on the ground. I know 100% when i did this my torque wrench it clicked at the same torque setting regardless of preload or no preload both times i did this job. Do it anyways just to be sure though for the peace of mind.
Hope this helps

I don't bother b/c there's no way it's affecting anything on this car. The rear bushing is the only one that flexes and how is load going to change anything in regards to bolting it down? The others swivel... There's no change in angle on any of them.
And surprise, nothing has happened from installing them this way (including other vehicles with similar design).
Sounds like some old **** left in from another chassis.
