Over sensitive throttle

guys. Just bought a 03 max for little to nothing. I knew it had some issues, thus the low price. Thought it would be a good commuter since I drive 150 miles a day for work. MAF sensor, a/c compressor, struts, shocks, starter and countless other small things and it’s still not right. While driving down the highway at speeds above 60 mph the throttle is very sensitive. Over sensitive. If you let off the petal just enough to decrease speed by let’s say 1mph it’s as if the engine is dropping all power input. If you add a slight amount of petal it wants to accelerate as if you are pressing the petal far more. Constant speed is impossible. I’ve done the relearn procedure a couple times and it doesn’t seem to help. Thought I would test the acc. petal sensor but I don’t know the values. Any help would be great.

gas pedal

The gas pedal is a drive-by-wire setup. I had mine replaced after a couple of years - car went into limp mode in my case. Not quite your situation, but they should be able to tell if the pedal is giving a reasonable reading throughout the range. Hope this helps.

Hook up an OBD2 reader and check what values you are seeing for throttle position with the throttle at various positions?

I wish mine was cable not wire. I’m still doing some troubleshooting but I’m pretty sure it’s the TPS/position motor that is the problem with mine. It oscillates even with the cruise set, so I don’t think it’s the accel. petal sensor.

Got it

It was indeed the throttle position motor or TPS. Don’t matter which one it was because they are one unit. I changed the throttle body and now she runs like a top. Got a great deal on brand new OEM on amazon for 100 bucks.
