Tried to start the car but....

Been working on the car a lot lately i am kind of burn out.

Just looking for some ideas from you guys. I haven't trouble shooted much.

This is what happen.

Car doesn't have axles in yet,nor does the clutch reservoir have any fluid. Not sure if these matter.reverse switch is not in the tranny yet,nor does it have any fluid in it.

Batteries from two good cars were used. First attempt ,car turned over fast a few times. Then power went out 100% to everything.(like battery was unhooked)
After unhooking the battery and waiting each time a few minutes. Then hooking battery back up power is back to everything. But this time when key is turned forward power instantly goes away again. With no turning over.

Another thing i noticed horns do not work with pressing steering wheel ,or using keyless (clockspring?)but the rear lights flash.(i also do not have front lights installed)

Tomarrow i will check the other stering controls.

I have very little experience with the 5th gens, any help is welcome.

A good battery from doesnt mean a good battery for the maxima unless it has the same cold cranking amps. For example, using a honda civic battery to start the maxima is silly but will get it started after a couple cranks. Our starters draw alot of current.

You could have a bad battery cable, positive or negative. People have had the cable corrode where the wire goes into the terminal clamp.

Having the axles out does not play any part in the engine starting process.

Here is a link to diagnosing a starter problem, but I don't think it specifically addresses your problem.

OK added a ground to the starter bolt and cleaned some paint off some body grounds(i painted them over) OK power doesn't go off now ,and also horns and everything works now.

But when trying to start starter clicks and i can hear it struggle. Never had a starter do this kind of thing before?! But it doesn't turn over. After a few attempts ,it does the usual ticking sound and dash cluster ticks .

Do you think it still needs more ground work?
