Just bought another i35

I just bought a 03 i35. Rides really good hot heat and cold a/c. But Found out that the rear main seal is leaking. Its leaking pretty good, as it leaves a small spot every time i park. Got about 220K miles and it runs and shifts good. No rust at all. Probaly wont be driving it much until i get this looked into. It leaks right where the tranny and engine connect. Kinda wondering if its worth it.

That’s a tough question to answer. At at miles, almost everything are on the way out. RMS is a big job. If you don’t DIY, you probably spend about about the same amount of money to fix it.

Try auto rx and a!so valvoline maxlife high mileage. I had small seepage and tried the Rx. Totally fixed it.

Then I got stupid and a year or so later tried a synth oil to help in cold starts with a little timing rattle from the tensioner issue. RMS started leaking again. Still no drops but leaking none the less. Went to valv high mileage maxlife and it seems to slowly be stopping. Will probably do another Rx soon. The synth totally messed up my Rx "seal" . Engine sounded awesome with the synth but that's not cool with a leak.

Apparently maxlife is conventional dino with seal package of synthetics.

No, what you want to use is ATP re seal AT-205.

OP: If it's the RMS, then a conditioner may work, but it's just as likely to be the half moon with RTV.

oh ok so I can use some type of sealer and see if it works kool. I saw the previous owner used blue devil something. Not sure if that is good or not. I was thinking that it was a bad leak but it jus drips a little, it scared me because i could not get a reading on the oil stick after putting in 3 quarts, come to find out the level was that low. now i have a reading on the stick.

I looked up that atp stuff and it appears to be a solvent. If so, then I would try other routes first, mainly what I suggested because they are not invasive and usually take some time to work while they slowly help the seal. Not necessarily a fix, but it could be and if you were to use a solvent who knows what else it could cause.

Just my thoughts. Can't go backwards once you use it.
