Throw Out Bearing Tab Orientation.

So, Which is the correct way to install this throw out bearing. Is the tab facing in or facing out? I installed it both ways and it seemed like it could work both ways. The difference was that with the tab facing out, the throw out bearing had more snug feel going in and out of the shaft, while with the tab facing in, it was a lot more free-er almost too wobbly.

Tab facing in.

Tab facing out.

I lean toward tab facing in but I could be wrong...

I don't remember but I do know it has to be right.

You're correct in your thinking. One way will bind a little if you apply pressure to it and move it with the fork with your other hand. That's the wrong way. It should move smoothly with no binding. Any looseness will be taken up when it's under real pressure but the binding will multiply under pressure.

If you do it wrong it will bind and cause a really stiff jerky clutch pedal.

It's kind of a screwy design. On most other cars I've worked on it will only go on one way.
