Cluster LEDs - 2018

Just wanting to start a new thread on cluster LED options. Currently, I have superbrightled plug and play warm white 3 LED installed. I like the white color they produce in my SE cluster but don't love the hot spotting.
Cluster LEDs - 2018-20180812_200613-1612x1209.jpg

The hot spots are not as noticable at night, but at dusk they really stand out. I picked up some lighthouse LED flat top cool white to try out but they are quite blue in the cluster and didn't reduce the hotspots.
Cluster LEDs - 2018-20180921_131518-1612x1209.jpg In addition, they are a nuisance to install requiring resistors and custom fabrication to use the 74 base.

I found these vleds VLED 74 6 LEDand wondering if anyone had tried these out? I'd prefer a warmer color temp than they offer though.

Thanks for posting this. This was going to be my next task after the swap. My cluster is entirely too dim. I may even have a bulb out, not sure. I've had the car since July and have yet to drive it even just around the block. Is the cluster removal pretty intuitive? Any tricks to disassembly? I hate asking questions before I assess an issue for myself as I'm usually able to figure most things out, but I'm starting off with zero knowledge about stock cluster removal and this will be my first.

I guess you'd need to make a diffuser to help with the hot spots. or maybe they make higher end LEDs with better diffusion, other wise i'd probably just run bulbs for that very reason.

Those look nice but wow, at $6 per bulb I hope they really do eliminate the hot spots!

I just purchased some 3 LED pure white bulbs from eBay. Will install and check back in tomorrow. They are a bit cheaper at $6 per pair.

The 5mm, 360 degree led's in the above link are the only ones I know that dont hot spot. They work great in my HVAC.
Obviously a little soldering and a resistor is needed...plus this for the dash:

Checking back in. Still have some minor hot spots. Will likely be more apparent at night but not as bad as before.

First picture shows style of old bulbs, second pic shows style of new bulbs and third pic shows the new bulbs installed.

EDIT: Link to the bulbs purchased.

Interesting. I have super-bright led's blue color installed without any hotspots.

It's been a while since the install, but I do believe there are 3 leds per bulb. Maybe I find the exact bulb type that I ordered if that would help you.

Can you turn/insert the bulbs 180 deg to see if the light is dispersed differently?

Not sure. Would have to try one of these days.

Not hard at all! Just need a 4-6” Philips head screwdriver. I remove the lower dash panel below the steering wheel, the column trims and then the gauge cluster trim and cluster.

These bulbs look pretty similar to the ones I got from superbrightleds, and pretty similar results.

Even though I want a plug and play solution, those bases might make the process tolerable. My HVAC hotspotting is currently worse than the dash, but I don't spend as much time looking at it.

What's a shifter light? I could have the cluster out in about 3 minutes. It's really easy. I also have super bright led's throughout my car with zero hotspoting. I bought them within the last year so maybe they have? newer versions that work better.

Oh and here’s said M3 , also since I’ve veen gone I started broke. www.brokeAllDay.com and host events 😎 I’ll be posting a lot more now and hopefully contributing back as I used to. But this post helped a lot because I was concerned after seeing the terrible lighting stock after replacing all the interior leds

I think he is referring to the small bulb above the area of the ash tray where the light shines around the shifter and central console.

If you have an SE cluster you need to buy warm white ( yellowish) if you want the cluster to appear white and not blue.

5.5 gen clusters will always look blue because of the tint on the cluster face

are the oem bulbs in the guage LED? or incandescent? i cant figure out why the past 4 years the mph side has been out for 80% of the time, and then turns on when it wants on a rare ocassion, today driving to work, and it turned on in middle of drive, but then stays off for days at a time.
my key ring is out, shifter light, and mph light, and come to think of it probably glove box.

The 4 illumination lamps are incandescent, high beam indicator and turn signals too IIRC. Everything else in the cluster is LED for MY 2002-2003

Can you just pull out the old bulbs and plug the LED bulbs in, or do you need resistors and other parts?
