Dead radio?

Hello folks. I have a 2002 Max with the stock radio unit and seemingly the radio went dead. I get no AM/FM stations or sound coming out of it. The strange thing is that if I press the CD eject button, I can hear the motor going. I checked the fuse in the panel and it's good which explains the motor working. But why do I not have sound coming out. Also the display does not light up even after pressing the on/off switch repeatedly. Once in a blue moon the display does come on but garbled for like a quick second then goes out again. I was hoping to have this radio last as long as the car since it's my beater car but I need to listen to something in the mornings lol

thanks for your input in advance

Did you try pulling the radio? Pull the upper vents off to access the upper bolts. Pop the lower trim around the shifter/stick to get at the lower bolts.

Actually, yeah I did. Forgot to include that in my post. I pulled the radio as someone had suggested to me that there may be a fuse behind the radio. Well, there isn't. I disconnected all connections behind radio and reconnected again but nothing.

It's shot. For real. A power issue like that isn't worth messing with. $40 on eBay. 10 min swap.

At that price, you must have the Bose system. And yes, they are crazy. A used 15 year old Bose head unit has a very poor chance of lasting more than a year or so. I don't recommend going that route.

If you buy an aftermarket radio to replace a Bose, you need to get an adaptor to use the Bose speakers, so you can easily end up spending the same amount of money, but you would be better off in the long run.

I think a junkyard would be a good place to get an 02-03 stock bose radio and would be the least problematic route. If you don't mind missing the steering wheel controls, an 00-01 bose radio will also fit and work well.

Folks,
thanks for all your replies, I think I'm gonna try the junkyard route first, if not then a cheap head unit as advised by you guys here.
Today, I couldn't explain this. But today I turned the key on and the display lasted for a full 2 seconds and it died. So the longer I don't use my car(24 hours) the longer the display lasts turned on and I'm talking from microseconds to seconds.

You can find used ones that were barely used on eBay. A lot of the regular guys selling them (not scrap yards) took them out for aftermarket replacements and it sat in their storage area for 15 years. Barely any use. That's how I am going about modding one to replace my aftermarket set up. Secondly emailing to ask can get you one for $40 when they list it for $100. Ask me how I know.

You can also get a radio out of a 2003 - 2007 Nissan 350Z as well. The 5th Gen Maxima radio had an issue with the power ribbon strip going bad. It's an easy fix but I don't remember where you would get the parts from anymore, your best bet if you want to keep it stock is to do like Theslaking said and get one from eBay. His advice is spot on, I replaced the radio in my 2003 Maxima years ago with a double din DVD player and had my old radio boxed up for several years before I sold it to a member here about 3 yrs ago. I had got it from a 05 350Z.

I actually replaced the radio with an aftermarket Sony radio that I had laying around for close to 10 years lol. It was a nice face detachable unit back then. I took it out of my weekend toy car 2 years ago and it's been lingering since. Totally forgot all about it. Installed it in one of those DIN enclosures. Only used the frame. The DIn is flimsy plastic so I just kept the metal stock enclosure and it worked well. So, my total cost was $11.69 plus my time to install it.

I knew I'd lose the steering volume and tuner button but had no idea I'd lose the mode button But no biggie, I guess

Thanks for all your help
