If you match the emissions, you have a reasonable chance. Then there is the auto trans/manual trans versions. The one thing I have questions about is that all of the 2000 had an EGR valve. Most of the 2001 do not. Don't know how this might affect things.

I am running a 2001 ECU in my 2000. With no modifications.

Works great no codes.

SO... yes it will work.

The main thing is it will have EGR harness plug. Just let these hang. Make sure you label IACV and EGR plug because i believe they will work on each other vice versa. I don't think it will cause damage to do that, but IACV might not like it.

Ok I got the wire harness yesterday and it has all the same plugs in the engine bay.
Under the dash the harness in the car now there is a blue plug right by the ecu not in use and the new harness has the same blue plug but there is a grey plug hooked to it, any ideas what it's for?

They are very near the two throttle body plugs. IACV and EGR plugs look the same. They are near each other two.

I belive your talking about the boost sensor. Some cars have it under the hood some dont.

Does the plug look like it plugs into this. This is a boost sensor from my 01 maxima. It's on the ECU bracket.

I have the same thing you pictured. The blue plug in the bottom picture is not plugged into anything on the harness in the car now. The top picture is the new harness and it has the same blue plug but with a grey plug. Any ideas on this one? Thanks

I don't think that's a plug at all. Just leave it alone.

install the two harnesses side by side.

Take off one plug ,put one on.

Ok update. Had mechanic put harness in now the car turns over but won't start he says the security light stays on so its acting like it's being stolen. His scanner was unable to read the computer so he checked fuses and they all looked good. Any ideas?

so the key ,immobilizer and ECU are the same?

If they are i would reprogram the key to the ECU's again. If he can't do that you went to the wrong mechanic .

Update

Went checking around and found that they didn't plug in the main plug all the way and lock it in. I plugged it in and it runs good but now I'm getting a knock sensor code popping up
