Drilling door for speaker wires

Where exactly does one drill into the door to run speaker wiring? Also, how does one get the wires back into the body of the car and behind the dash? Do you have to drill into the car as well? It seems to me like I would need to remove the door to be able to fit a drill into the areas that would leave me with a clean looking install and not something ghetto AF. Anyone able to share a pic or two of how they did it?

Reason behind this nonsense is because Im in the process of replacing the bose system in my car. Right now I have the speakers using the stock wiring - I simply removed the bose amp from the trunk and cut and spliced the inputs to the output wires. I only have the front door speakers in so far (because I was not aware the rears are smaller - picking up speaker rings/brackets tomorrow so my 6 1/2 speakers will fit). My problem with this setup is i think I might be losing a ton of volume due to the fact that the current has to run the length of the car and back to finally reach the speakers (THANKS blose). My headunit puts out 40w RMS to each speaker, and sounded awesome in my 4th gen, with the same speakers - it got loud as I needed for my purposes. Granted, I only have two of the four speakers in right now, but at max volume it just doesnt seem like it is as loud as I remembered it being in the last car. Hopefully Ill be able to get the rears in tomorrow to see what improvement Ill have there - but I suspect that I will need to run my own speaker wires if I wish to make the most out of this modest system. Another concern is the tweeters - obviously the bose ones are hot smoldering garbage. I pulled an A-pillar to look at one and it looked the size of a nickel mounted to a metal bracket. The internet claims they are 1 inch, but they just seem much smaller to me than that. Would I have issues throwing any old 1 inch tweeters in to replace them or is there some sort of special mounting required for them?

Anyways, back to the point of this thread - im wondering with how I can do a nice, clean install of new wiring, should I still not be satisfied with the results. My max definitely is no show piece but if anything Id like it to look nicer rather than just drilling ***** nilly to get the job done quick and dirty. Any help would be appreciated. In the mean time, Im working on cutting out a big 3/4'' MDF board into the shape of my trunk, so I will have something to drill and hold the sub box that Im going to be installing to compliment the speakers.

Wouldn't you just use the existing grommet/conduit that the other door wires are using?

My mistake. I would infact be using the existing grommet on the door for the speaker wires. My question is more about how to get the wire from there and into the body. The harness going into the body from the door is a hard plastic connector that is bolted on, rather than a simple bundle of wires going through with a rubber grommet around it. I pulled that out and looked out it, I dont see a way to incorporate the speaker wires into that since the wires Id being using are bigger. Is that how people do it though? Or is there another way?

I believe I posted my stereo build log on here. If not : https://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum...d-monitor.html

It should be right at the beginning how I went through the harness. It was really easy compared to some cars.

The head unit is actually from 2004. It's widely considered one of the best 5 hu's ever made. It was my unicorn. But the disc player wasn't reading good. So I sent it in and had him refresh everything. He said nothing was broke just needed some up keep and a good cleaning.

No. I'm saying that even though I only had the head unit in the car a couple years it was 15+ years old.

I went active with my front speakers and did what theslaking did on the passenger side. However, I didn't have enough space to run two sets of wires on the drivers side. Behind the main wiring harness of the door should be a set of smaller grommets (both on the door and frame) that you can press wire through. Just be sure to give yourself enough slack and use a grommet of some sort to keep water out.
