Found a bunch of wheels that may fit as they fit the Akebono calipers on G37's. I'm waiting on a response from a couple ebay sellers to give me width dimension of the 4 piston Sport/Akebono caliper. It looks pretty big, so if it equals the 160mm the 17Z is in width, that opens up a bunch more research resources to try and search for a wheel I like without buying them all then sending them back.

Found these on an old org forum, I always liked the G37 Sport wheel but never wanted 19", this seems like it may be a decent alternative:

Post #53 shows offsets and these look good to me. No poking outside the wheel well:

Finally remembered to dig out and measure those 300zx brackets like i promised.

About 9.5mm thick, with roughly 98-99mm distance between the holes top and bottom when measured from centerline. Side to side is about 32mm with those holes.

Again, these are for the 4th gen (95-99) so they are not made for our cars. But Im extremely curious what the distance is between bolt holes on our spindles. Any chance you happened to take a measurement of that? If by some miracle that distance is the same as the 4th gens (doubtful) then theres a chance these can get rigged up on a 5.5 gen. I want to upgrade my brakes from stock, and right now the plan is to just use 6th gen brakes, but having some nice eye candy 4 pot calipers that say NISSAN across them would look pretty damn nice.

I need to know the width of a front caliper at it's widest point.

Odd, because I got 100mm when I measured for the adapters. Also note, however, that the bolt holes for 5.5 gen are M14.

So for slamrod, 4th and 5th gen mounting tabs are the same at 100mm, the only difference is 5th gen bolts are M14 and it looks like your Z32 bolt holes are M12. Easy mod, just drill out a couple mm.

Looks like width is right at 150mm. Looks like caliper extends 2.25" past the hub surface. Quite a caliper. Big sucker!

User1, can you measure how much the OEM caliper bracket extends the caliper away from the spindle? Not the direct distance from bolt to bolt, but the distance they would be if they were in a straight line extending outward from the hub (ie; the measurement equivalent to my bracket’s 32mm) Or just take a pic and ill try to eyeball it lol, id go measure myself but its too cold and miserable to be wrenching right now. Depending on that measurement though, these brackets might actually work just fine on our cars.

Gotta say, its awesome to see the forum buzzing with little projects like this again. And pretty amusing too, since I feel like we’re just repeating all the same crap that went on here a decade or two ago lol.

Those were measurements for you of my caliper. I still need your measurement. If your caliper is 150mm wide then we are in business. Also, if you could measure the clearance between your wheel inside surface and the caliper, that would help to know what kind of buffer I have. I really appreciate your help. I wish I could send you one of my calipers and a bracket so you could bolt it up to your car, throw the wheel on and tell me it fits!

Haha, you are now looking for exactly the same measurement I need

I'll get a measurement from centerline of disk to hub mating surface for you tomorrow when I wake up. I have to head off to work soon. I'm a vampire, remember.

The width of the red part is what I need. By measuring your caliper total width, we can divide by 2 and get our answer. If the answer is less than 75mm, we are good to go, as this means any wheel that you can run, I can run.

Disregard my last response to you. I know what you want now. You want a radial measurement outward from the caliper mounting hole. Hold please...

Not really sure this will help you though, as my bracket is an odd shape, not a symmetrical dog bone like yours

Slamrod, your bracket will work, the limitation will be rotor diameter. My brackets were designed for 355mm rotors. I think your bracket accommodates 320mm/12.6" rotors, or the same rotors 6th gen Maximas and 350Z. I'm running the 320mm now with my 2008 350Z brakes. So for $99 bucks you can pick up this pair of rotors (what I'm running now, and I have another pair on order right now because I'm going to mod my 350Z calipers rather than cut down rotors -in case this Brembo thing doesn't work out-)

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Pair-Set-of...MAAOSw7aNcgoHg

and you have everything you need for your Z32 4 pot BBK.

pretty much what I was thinking. They are definitely designed for 13” cobra rotors, a moderator named “Jeff92se” or something along those lines used to crank these dogbone brackets out many years ago. But that was on the 4th gen. Doubtful that everything about our spindles in terms of where the brake bracket attaches to is identical though, i thought the design changed from 95-01 to 02+. When the weather clears up here im going to do a little test fitting and see what comes up. Really want 13” rotors to go with them but since I already intended to use 12.6” rotors I cant really be mad about it lol.

Everything is the same except the 5th gen caliper mounting tab bolt holes, which are M14. But don't quote me on that So you would have to drill out two of the bracket holes. No big deal. I think you're right about the rotor, your bracket is for the 13" Cobra rotors. Do you already have wheels that will clear those calipers?

No idea why I didnt search until now lol. Youre right, the only real difference is the bolt hole size. They should fit perfectly other than that. Still gotta get hub centric rings for the rotors though.

So i “technically” have a set of 17” aftermarket rims that would work, but they were looking like **** so I started a project of sanding them down so I could paint them. Started sanding and kinda lost interest lol, not to mention the tires need replacing and the wheels are 17x7 and not much lighter than stock, so theyre just sitting in a pile collecting dust. Im a hairwidth away from pulling the trigger on some 17x8 Enkei’s that look amazing though, not to mention being nearly 5lbs lighter than stock 17’s.

Found a template that might help. This is apparently the Akebono G37 Sport front caliper template. If slvr2KSE5 can confirm the 47.50mm measurement from the outside rotor face, then this is more accurate data.

As indicated in a previous post where I show measurements, the 17Z extends 57.15mm past the hub surface. I'm not sure what the rotor bell thickness is, but the rotors I ordered from ebay will be here Sunday and I will measure them. If they are 3 or 4mm or so, then I am looking at about a 6mm difference.

That's the practice rotor I bought to replace my existing rotors, so 12.6". I have Z1 Motorsports putting together a pair of two-piece 14" rotors in blank, not fancy cross-drilled or slotted or any of that nonsense.

I am SO relieved right now! Because I don't have to keep looking for another wheel! I really like this open-spoke design. Displays the caliper well. I will however, need a 5mm wheel spacer to have adequate wheel spoke clearance. It just BARELY clears right now and I have the caliper bracket offset 5mm on the spindle to center the disc. I hope using a 5mm washer between the caliper adapter and the caliper mounting tabs on the knuckle won't cause any problems?

Also, I'm not educated in wheel spacers because I despise them and never cared to understand the adaptation of them, but I will now lose 5mm of stud, how do I make that up? Do I have to press out the old studs and press in longer ones???

Anyway, Fuuuuuuuuuuck YEAH!

Now all you gotta do is figure out an upgrade for the rear ;^)

As for the 5mm spacers, dont worry about it. I know youre meticulous but it will literally make zero difference whatsoever, your lugs are going to be biting the same amount of thread unless you have some monster sized ones, at which point it would matter even less. Its when you get to the thicker sizes that people run longer studs, or get spacers that have studs built into them that are used in lieu of the stock threads, which are used to attach the spacer to the hub.

Meticulous, you know me too well

For real? No concern with losing almost a quarter inch of lug? Ok, I guess!

It's cool to be back and forth with you again. Miss you guys from my swap days, which really wasn't that long ago. I remember child, so helpful. What a great guy with wealth of info. Good people around here, still. You too, Freezer!

I have some fine tuning to do, then I'll have a complete parts list up for those interested. I'm going to source all my fasteners from Fastenal, then get this **** put together. I think I'll look to lessen the offset (I have3n't looked yet) for the rear wheels to keep the same/relatively the same wheel spacement in the rear, i.e. no spacer needed by running a wheel with a lesser offset).

Feels good to be a pioneer at this again! Remember, I was the first documented Gen2 swap to retain all Gen2 accessories, and now I'm the first to bring the 17Z Brembo 6 pot BBK!

Whats up now fooooos!

I gotta be honest though, losing 5mm of stud thread bothers me...

These brakes are cool. I just put some proper wheels on, but WILL be running the stock 17s in winter. I will want to upgrade my brakes so there isn't just a black hole behind there.

I have been through hundreds of threads related to this kit, and those wheels will clear the 17Z calipers.

pic too big lol

Ain't no way in hell they were going to fit inside an OEM SE 17" Maxima rim! 6th Gen have only .040" to .060" clearance with the spokes. and that 6 piston caliper is 2.5 times larger!

Nice work.

Not very precise by any means but from the face of the rotor friction surface to the face of the caliper where "Infiniti" is printed is right around 63.5mm. from the face of the rotor at the hub to the face of the caliper is 51mm. I would definitely give this 3-5mm margin of error.

Thanks for checking that. I have it all mocked up on the knuckle now (the "I win" post, it's all bolted together) and forgot to grab a happy snap or two of it all bolted up. I needed a 5mm shim between the bracket and the knuckle mounting tabs (two washers stacked) to center the disc. This left me with needing about 3mm of spacer (I used 3mm washers for the above pic) between the wheel and the rotor face for adequate caliper spoke clearance. I'm not really happy with needing a wheel spacer, as now I lose those stud threads. I'm going to do some research and see if this is something I need to be worried about or can remedy without trashing brand new Timken bearings to press in longer studs.

3mm spacers you will be fine with same studs, u need 7+ full rotations on the wheel lug nuts to be safe. i actually got a decent write up from a spacer manufactuer and it described how many turns you need etc. and it was approx 7+ i can look for it it up if you want.

i pushed 5mm up front and it was fine but not exactly super comforting, i believe i still got 7 turns there as well. 3mm i have no worries. now i have proper extended studs for 10 mm upfront.

Lol... My 3000gt has less than that. IIRC it's about 2mm between the back of the spoke and caliper.

That's about what I'm looking at. I'm still working on getting some close-ups. You don't have any problems with wheel flex?
