Alternator Problems

Hi, I have a 2003 Nissan Maxima and I just replaced the alternator and ik the battery is good. The Pigtail has a broken clip but when I pushed it down with a stick to keep it tight the battery still died and I replaced the fuse on the battery. Does anyone know if the alternator has a relay?

This is the pigtail end that has a broken clip

There is no relay for the alternator. When you push the connector down, can you tell if all the wires inside the connector are pushed down into the connector and not sticking up?

Another thing to check is a 10 amp fuse that is under the hood in the box by the battery. the cover has the label ALT.S

What you need to do is check the voltage. If the battery is charged and ok, the voltage should read 12.5 volts before you start the engine. After you start the engine the voltage should be 14 volts, give or take a tenth or 2.

Let us know what readings you get.
