02 5.5 Doors won't stay open
02 5.5 Doors won't stay open
Within the last year, none of my doors will stay open if the car is parked on even a very slight incline.
The part that is supposed to keep the door open is called a "Door Check" or "Link Check". I believe the part # is 80430-2Y02A. It seems that the going rate is about $40-50. I really don't want to spend $200 to hold my doors open if I can avoid it.
Has anyone figured out a way to tweak these to get them to hold the door open again or is the only option to replace them?
I thought I would ask here before I take a door apart.

EDIT:
I guess I didn't search hard enough. This guy seems to have found a work around. Has anyone done this on a Max?

Apparently I'm the only one with this problem.
If anyone is interested, the door checks in the 02 Max are very similar to those in the above video. They come apart in the exact same way. However, the solution isn't quite as easy. You can't just turn the rubber 90°. I came up with a fix that seems to work pretty well. I did it on the driver's side door and now it feels nice and firm. If it holds up for a while I'll do the other doors and post a few pics.
