Cruise Control not working

I was on the freeway yesterday traveling at 70 to 75 mph. turned on the cruise control and pushed the set button, but it didn't hold the speed. Wondering what could be causeing this to happen?

My 2000 SE had a problem where it cycled - would speed up then stop then speed up again then stop.
At that point there were too many other issues to think about.

There's a little switch under the brake pedal. If the little bumper/stop that it hits on the pedal arm falls off it won't work. If the stop is still there check the switch.
