I haven't seen anyone try using any of the open source ECU's on any of the Maxima's yet. https://rusefi.com/
Has anyone out there tried yet?
I'm just finishing reassembling an '01 and hate the factory ECU and it's lack of fuses for the motor mounts, IAC and how it only likes the factory ignition coils, etc etc.
Ever since the a33 and newer ecus have been cracked, theres really not much benefit to justify the cost and complexity unless youve got a ***** to the wall engine build.
I think what he means by cracked is that there is software for us to reflash our stock ecu. Look into RomRaider. From what I have been seeing that is the go to software.
Maybe someone with some experience with modifying our stock ecu could chime in because from what I understand we can use wideband o2 for diagnostics and an external monitor.
Yep Romraider & nisprog to tune the stock ecu.
Im about to go through the process on my AE.
Ive seen the 3.0 tuned with this method before but im not sure if those definitions were shared (I also havent looked too deeply).
Regarding the wideband, it doesnt get connected directly to the ECU, instead it is ran in in parallel. Both are connected to the computer you're tuning with in order to log A/F with the rest of your engine data.
I've been running aftermarket coils since 2013 on my 02 with no issues. when one goes out then I just replace it with another $20 aftermarket one. I keep spares just in case.
The stock ECU would throw codes for all the aftermarket coils we tried. As I recall the ECU would measure the resistance of the primary side and throw a code if they are out of range. What brand and part numbers are your coils?
