Shift lever position issues

I recently had the rear main seal replaced on my '02 GLE. Since then I have had some issues with the shift lever. Sometimes I have to wiggle the lever around to get it to "find" reverse, and sometimes I have to do the same for drive. Since all shift positions are done electronically I'm not sure what the problem would be. I know the transmission was dropped when the rear main seal was replaced, but I'm not sure how that would affect the shift lever. Anyone have any related issues and any thoughts?

The linkage can be adjusted where the shifter cable meets the trans.

did you have someone else do the work? if so, they may have messed up the linkage bushing at the transmission and did something half-assed just to put it back together.

back when I had a Ford Contour V6 I had a dealer fix the transmission under warranty. When I got the car back the shifter felt sloppy and they installed the shift cable with no bushing and a zip tie.

Yah, I normally do my own work but this was more than I wanted to bite off and chew. I will have to check that. Thanks.
