misfire but no engine light

My car sounds like it has a misfire but the engine light isn't coming on or giving me any codes. I drove 40 miles and still no engine light.

any ideas?

Unmeasured air? I just ordered a new bellows that connects the throttle body to the airbox. Noticed mine was nice and cracked when I installed the strut brace. Not leaking yet, but better get a new one on quick!

my intake system is sealed up pretty good, I picked up a new intake tube earlier this year and I used all new gaskets with all the NWP intake bolt ons.

this is the first time having a misfire since I've done away with the stock exhaust, it's way more noticeable. I pulled the coil connectors one by one and only #2 stays the same when coil is disconnected. I changed the plugs maybe a lil lover a year ago and I used Denso Iridium, so I'm wondering if the issue is more than just a fouled plug. maybe fuel. the car does have 305,000 miles and I never changed the fuel filter on it, and #2 is furthest from the fuel line.

Swap coil and see, then if not, swap injector.

I already put new coils on the front bank yesterday. I'll be putting in new plugs tomorrow, might as well knock out the easy stuff first.

300k mi and the IM is easy to remove. I'd do a proper maintenance and replace coils, plugs, IM gasket and clean TB. May as well wait til your rocker covers arrive and do everything at once.

I did all that at the start of the year, for now I'm mainly focusing on diagnosing the problem. I picked up a set of 6 plugs and I'll be changing out the front ones first thing in the morning.

I'm going to put off on installing the valve covers since the ones installed on the car are ok for the moment.

problem solved

the coil connector on 2 is really worn out and isn't making good contact. I'm guessing #2 was the original culprit and when I changed all the coils on the front bank the connector for #2 must have messed up. as soon as I push the wires for #2 the misfire goes away..

I run the same schedule. Sometimes 6 nights a week. 12hr shifts. Except I go directly to bed with no exceptions when I get home in the morning. And for some reason I'm still lucky if I get 5hrs of good sleep a day. I just wasn't wired for night shift. Been doing it for years though.

one thing I learned about working night shifts is that it's better to not get home and sleep right away, I stay up until noon or 1 and wake up later in the day.

Damn, that seems to be cropping up more and more lately with the age of this era cars.

I once diagnosed a yota 22r intermittent misfire by pushing on a bundle of wires. I looked like a genius finding it in 30 secs and the owner couldn't figure it out for months LMAO. Of course I pretended I knew what I was doing.

for some reason only my front coil connectors got brittle and cracked. if I'm lucky I can just put the old wiring and contacts into the new plastic connector.

In your case, I would buy the connectors, used even and swap the Pins Over. I can check a harness I have to see If i have them. Dorman makes them also.

Even though I ride a Gen 2 busa now. The 600rr was all I ever Really Needed. It was just a Fun bike to ride overall. The Super Duke will be my Next bike Venture for 2022.

Don't feel bad, I have zip-tied injector plugs.

Oh and I forgot, I have an entire spare engine harness I can cannibalize if you want. No crusty brittle connectors either, all good.
